- I just took delivery of our new 38RS widebody last Friday. I felt the walk thru at the dealership was very rushed and did not provide me with all the information that I need to properly operate the new coach. I am not getting good feedback from my salesman and at this point would perfer to ask my questions to fellow owners because I feel that the information will be more accurate. These are a few of my questions :
1. If for some reason the Bigfoot level system fails can you manually extend and retract the jacks?
2. At this time I want to have the unit plugged into shore power, but do not want the refrigerator running for a couple of months in the cold weather. Is it safe to place in “store” mode where it only operates the lights, but won’t cool.
3. If there is some problem with the slide outs can I manually retract or extend?Hopefully someone out there can help answer my questions.
Posted: 9:35 AM – Feb 11, 2015Welcome MadhatterI use the ‘search’ function at the upper right corner of the page to do searches.
Question 1 – I have the older Bigfoot panel, and have an ’emergency retract’ button that will retract all the jacks. For manually deploying them, I called Bigfoot and used jumper cable to jump a solenoid accessed behind the plastic jack motor assembly. If you can’t deploy your jacks, I would call Bigfoot as they have support available 7 days a week
Question 2 – sorry, can’t answer as we have a gas fridge
Question 3 – used the search function and came up with this link post8077.html?hilit=%20manual%20slide%20out#p8077I am sure others may help, and perhaps your owners manual may be of assistance.

In the meantime, check out this link. It is the only manual that came with our rig.

Posted: 12:35 PM – Feb 13, 2015Thanks Phillip, I did find the ‘bigfoot’ manual that was in the link, but it does not talk about manual operation. What bothers me is the fact that I did not get an owners manual for the rig. I would think that one should exist.

Posted: 2:54 PM – Feb 13, 2015Ok, I think I misunderstood. You want to know what to do if a jack will not operate…..in other words how would you manual retract it if you have system failure?? If that is your question…..I’d like to know the answer to that, too. Thanks, Philllip
Posted: 5:27 PM – Feb 13, 2015Off topic, but that sure is a pretty rig. Seems it should have a truck hitched to it as I think that “white stuff” in the picture may be harmful to it’s health.Posted: 5:49 PM – Feb 13, 2015If you can’t get a leg to retract, you have to disconnect the hydraulic hose for that leg, push the leg up by hand, then reconnect the hose. Would probably be a good idea to secure the leg in the up position with a bungee or strap. Yes, there will be a mess when you disconnect the hydraulic line.I have no idea what the do if the leg is stuck in the up position and won’t come down.

When we had a problem with one rear jack not retracting, Bigfoot advised us to use jumper cables on the solenoid under the jack cover. We used the truck battery with engine running to power the solenoids. There are 2 solenoids, one for retract and the other to extend. This method bypasses the panel, and assumes that the hydraulic pump is operational.
