Last fall I replaced one of the scare lights due to sun cracking of the clear lens.
Couple of weeks ago, I found that the gasket between the lens and the sidewall had rotted so bad, it was falling out of the joint. We’ve lived in the California and Nevada deserts for nearly a year now, and the sun is certainly fierce, but I didn’t think it would have been able to do so much damage in just one year.
        We live and learn.

My question is, I have to make a new gasket, I don’t want to just use caulk, which is the easy way out.
I’d like it to be a bit more professional.
What would everyone use as a gasket material, and where would you buy it?

Napa has some sheet material on line or I’m sure other auto part stores would have it.

A few weeks ago I noticed that one of my scare lights was darker inside than it had been. I pulled the lense and had water run out. The gasket had disintegrated. The lights were made by hawk so I found the model number and emailed the manufacturer. They replied that the gaskets were not available. They replied that I could replace the lights, but why would I replace them with a new light that will probably have the same problem? It seems like that tried to save some money and went with a cheap gasket.
I reassembled the lights with the crumbling gasket and then put a bead of silicon caulk across the top and about 1/2 inch down the side. I’ll see how that lasts. If anyone finds a source of gaskets I’d be interested in a few.

        Thanks,

I always assumed that auto parts would have oil and gas resistant gasket material, not soft foam, but maybe the soft foam won’t work and that’s what I will need to make a gasket that works.
I’m out of town for a couple of weeks so when I get back. I’ll go look.

I’ll update when I figure out what to do.
