- At the last campground I was at, I could not get my power on. Here is the situation. I plugged in to the 30 amp campground power pole and as soon as my Surge Guard turned on the GFCI at the post tripped. I started my diagnosis from there. I changed to different cords, I hooked up to different campground site poles, I shut off all the breakers in the coach so no power was being drawn past the surge guard ( hardwired), nothing worked. I started my generator (Honda 3000is) and plugged in and all worked. I am now in a different campground and have no problem. I assume that the current site is GFCI protected on the 30 amp plug. Do I have a problem, or should I write it off to a campground problem?Posted: 9:06 PM – May 24, 2013Sounds like a campground problem to me, especially since all is working now.Posted: 4:32 AM – May 25, 2013It sounds like your problem was at the power post to me also. I use a Progressive portable EMS. When I arrive at a cg the first thing I do is to plug the Progressive EMS into the outlet and let the EMS check for any problems with the power. If everything is OK I will then plug the trailer’s cord into the EMS. Just the way I like to do it,
DonPosted: 11:48 AM – May 25, 2013Camp ground power issue I suspect.
Mine was doing that last year . turned out to be low power. 105 volts. I had to run with out the surge protector..I ran on propane that weekend..well accept for lights and TV.
I did not trust the low power to run fridge, A.C or water heater thank goodness it was cool at night.
KevinPosted: 3:58 PM – May 28, 2013X2. If you wanted to verify the post and you have a meter, check it with that. I have a polarity LED device that I check the 20A with before I plug in the 50A cord. I would trust your Progressive.Posted: 10:52 AM – Jun 24, 2014I know this is an old post of mine from over a year ago, but I have some relevant information now. I thought I had a problem in my coach. Here is what it is —— The Surge Guard 34560 hardwired protector trips the GFCI……. Not a problem in the coach. I talked to technical support and they said that this is a known “feature” and to “jumper around” the unit if it is a problem! Huh? There is NO solution. It just works that way.I have only had a problem in 1 campground where the 30A plug was GFCI protected and of course any garage plug where I might be visiting for a short time. Garage and exterior plugs are, by code, to be protected this way.
