I’ll be adding a couple of computer fans to the back side of the fridge, behind the upper vent. I know that someone on here did it a long time ago. Chip, was it you? I’d love to see the pics again of how the vent was modified. Also I’m concerned about keeping the fans dry, how was that done?

If there’s nothing here, I’ll re-invent the wheel, but I’d rather not.

        Thanks,
        Cliff

Sorry Cliff, it wasn’t me but I too remember reading something about that on the forum. Our Norcold had a fan in the back from the factory. I changed out my fridge to a residential Whirlpool.

Cliff, you may want to check the fridge chimney baffling on your rig. I ordered our LS36fw with the 4 door Norcold. It never cooled well especially in transit. I, too, finally got so sick of the poor performance I installed a Samsung residential.
But back to the point. In all my efforts to fix the issues with the Norcold, I discovered that LS did NOT install it correctly according to the installation instructions provided by Norcold. The Norcold most likely already has 2 fans installed in the rear near the top. They are on a thermostat. Our LS came that way.

To further clarify, LS installed the rear baffle all the way up to the top of the condenser. The directions clearly illustrate that the baffle is to only be installed at the lower edge of the condenser.

Mine was the same. Bad baffles. There should be two fans. If you have poor performance and you never hear the fans it could be you have a bad sensor which is attached to the condenser. To test just short the two wires and the fans should come on.

I have the two fans located at the top vent that come on with a thermostat in my lifestyle. I bought a 4″ fan from Bed Bath & Beyond for 9 bucks. I layed it in the back down at the bottom vent Then I bought a 110 volt Digital thermostat that heats and cools off Amazon for 15 bucks. Lowered my temps 5 deg’s on my Dometic 4 door Refrig.

I did this kit with the 3 fans, buy the 3rd fan separate. I Located them so that they blow out of the top vent. After fixing/adjusting the baffles, and adding these fans, ice cream stays frozen. I have them wired with the supplied thermostat.

I looked around the back of the fridge. The baffles appear to be installed almost correctly, score one for the factory. It may be an inch or so too high, but I’m leaving it as is. Also, I did see a fan back there. It’s a small computer fan, about halfway up. I don’t know if it works, but it’s there.

I added two large computer fans and a thermal switch at the top of the baffle, right by the fins. The thermostat is set for 32* C (that’s around 90* ‘Murican). When I first hooked it up, the temp at the top of the compartment was 35*C, the fans raised it to 40 before it dropped back down. It appeared to pull the hot air out of the box, then started pulling in cooler air. I’ll have to watch over the next few days to see if the fridge actually cools better.

The two fans and the thermostat cost a total of about $30 on Amazon. They are screwed to scrap 1×2, which is bolted to the top of the baffle. I put foam double sided tape between the 1×2 and the baffle both to help hold it in place while drilling, and to provide a cushion to reduce any vibration. Here is what the final installation looks like.

That should help your problem. I dont see any insulation between the fridge and the inside walls. May want to consider adding some, but you will have to pull the fridge to do it right.
