- Our Suburban hot water heater stopped working on the electric side. Got to our campground a few hours ago set up turned the heater on and was just going to do the dishes, but no hot water, worked fine yesterday. Gas side works fine, checked the breakers, will need to do some exploring in the morning.Posted: 6:03 AM – Dec 06, 2013Have you tried pushing the reset buttons on the water heater? Here is a troubleshooting PDF for the water heater. Scroll down to page 6 and it will show you where and how to do it.
ChipPosted: 7:47 AM – Dec 06, 2013Thanks Chip, I had seen in the Suburban manual about the re-set buttons. I had tried pushing both sides but didn’t feel a button. I will take the cover off so I can see the re-set button and try it again. I’ve been reading that on the Suburban the high temperature limit switch is something that does fail. Today I’m going to see if I can find a replacement where we’re at and replace it. They are only about $40 on line, but we’re on the road. Thanks for the help.Posted: 2:19 PM – Dec 06, 2013It was the high temperature limit switch, it had some burn marks on it when I took the cover off, not sure what caused that, but after replacing it works fine now.Posted: 12:52 PM – Dec 08, 2013If the reset does not work and you have power to the switch on the heater then it is probably the thermostat. I just had that problem and had to replace the T-Stat. It is the one on the left side. The Gas T-Stat is on the right. DO NOT SWAP THEM. For now you would be able to use propane. Be sure ALL power is off when you replace it. It is very easy to do.I am assuming that your heater element is good and not burnt out. If is is the element, and there is no voltage to it, then you will need a 1/2″ wrench to pull it. Camco has one for about $6. Burning out the element is rare, unless you had the electric heater on with the tank empty.
Posted: 9:22 PM – Dec 08, 2013Thanks for the info guys. I had the same problem as Traveler only I just put my Cameo to bed and decided to address this problem in the spring.Posted: 8:01 AM – Dec 09, 2013This is a photo of the high temperature limit switch, the part number for ours is: 312155 A232305-2, but they make a 130 and 140 degree switch. I found it at a RV store that was going out of business right by our campground for $15. It was the one on the left side or 110 side, the one on the right side is 12 volt.
Running–Bear’s post has some great info.
Posted: 11:08 AM – Dec 09, 2013We had a bit of seepage from our pressure regulator of our hot water tank. We let it cool, reduced pressure and opened and closed it, with no more seepage. Has anyone tried a way of diverting the water away from the electrical connections etc. below the pressure regulator?B.W.Gentry
