Can someone tell me if there is a way to set the electric hot water heater thermostat without ripping out the panels beneath the sink – Cameo 36FWS. Thanks

There is no adjustable thermostat. There is a fixed thermostat and limit switch combo which is mounted on the outside. Get to it through the outside panel. Suburban makes two temps, 130 and 140 degrees.

If your hot water is not too hot, then it may be time to replace the thermostat. They do go bad. I replaced mine with a 140 and there was a big increase in hot water temp.

As was said above you can’t adjust the thermostat on the electric side. On the gas side you can check the orifice size and gas pressure.

Here is the service manual for the Suburban water heater:

Thanks all for the responses. I forgot to say that the hot water from the electric water heater is extremely hot therefore the reason for asking about reducing the setting on the thermostat. Sounds like there is no adjustment.

I’d love to do that, too. Seems a lower wattage element would be better temp and less power consumption. They’re all 1400-1500 watts. 750 would be plenty.

A lower wattage element won’t change the temp. It would just stay on longer, until the thermostat tells it to shut down. It would just take twice as long to get the water hot.

If the water is too hot and the high limit control is not shutting off the heater, the thermostat may be loose and is not being held tightly against the tank or needs to be replaced.
