I need to replace the ShurFlo pump that came with the rig in 2009. Already bought the Aquajet ES model from the http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/index.htm but need to mount it somewhere different than the original factory place.
On ours, may be different on/in different years, the factory mounted the pump vertically on the forward wall inside that little compartment that’s behind the convenience center, where you can see the water level inside the fresh water tank.
The new pump is a little bigger which is OK, it’s just that working inside that little space is no longer my cup of tea. So has anyone moved the pump to a better location? Or have you reconfigured all the wiring and plumbing in that area to make it easier to work in?
My only idea is to mount the new pump on a piece of wood and then using the industrial velcro stick it on top of the water tank. Easy to remove to service the strainer basket, etc.
I really don’t want to mount it in the pass-thru compartment due to a filter system already in place there, and all the other “stuff” that seems to be required to fulltime.. :D
        Thanks for any input,
        Pics are great too.

Taking down the forward wall in the main storage is not very difficult. After you are done you can cut a large access hole to get st your handiwork without having to remove it again.

I mounted mine to the forward bulkhead just above the holding tank.

I ran the water today to test the holding tanks and discovered the Surflo 2088-422-144 was leaking from the pump housing halves. Time for a new pump. This puppy was LOUD and did not put out much pressure so not a problem but the location in the 2009 is pretty much impossible to get to.

I have everything out of the basement (trying to put it all back together again for a trip), and now one more thing.

Any idea on what fits in there that is an upgrade and quiet, while attempting to work in an area that is impossible to get to?

I am attempting to take just the drivers side access cutout rather than the whole wall but may not have a choice. I will have to drain the water out of that tank (102 gallons) before I pull the wall if that is the only way.

I think the easy way is get an identical pump, pull the silicone gooped fresh water filler, and then have a fighting chance at getting to the screws and connections.

Second choice it is cutting the pex connections out of the top slit in the access way and hopefully just the accessway panel comes out giving room to work.

Third is pull the whole wall down. NOT my ideal choice for I have been fishing wire, USB, HDMI, a bunch of stuff through 2 each 1 ½ in holes from the basement to the front solar-inverter-battery-generator area in the front gen area. It is all removable just not forward movement.

            Jack,

I had to remove the entire wall.  I cut any opening for wire, conduit, pipes etc all the way to the ceiling so I can remember it again if need be.

i used an upgraded ShurFlow Smart Sensor 4.0 pump, installed a WATTS one way valve and a WATTS real pressure regulator while I had it apart, and re-routed plumbing so fresh water glues through whole house filter and softener before (and after) it goes into the holding tank.  Way too much work when trying to get out of town.  That was 8-10 years ago so ShurFlow probably has revised product names.  No, that larger pump would not have fit in the oem location.   I removed the hooky and tiny integrated pressure regulator in the inlet line. That helped volume when hooked to shore water and filling my tank since I route through filter/softener.  My new pump is located higher than the oem, and it ocasionally has priming issues with low tank levels after bouncing down the road. I doubt the oem pump would have enough umph to overcome the additional lift and hose lengths.

I would ((??temporarily??)) locate the pump to any location on the storage compartment side of the dividing wall (ABOVE the tank) or floor of the main storage area and run flexible hose to and from existing connections.  There are lots of pex-to-garden-(drinking)-hose-adapters for each end at Lowes, Home Depot and elsewhere. Flexible drinking water hose will be a lot easier to route through the tight spaces, but washing machine hose is the most flexible.  I would be inclined to tie into existing connections in the current pump location, but the other end of the pump in/out lines may be easier.

Wiring on mine was pretty easy to get to and extend to any new location.

            Good luck!

Jack,  our systems were designed for 45-55 psi depending upon year.  I don’t think our connecting fittings would hold up against a new 70psi pump.  And you know it will be the fitting that is impossible to get to that will start leaking.

Thanks, everyone! It seems the consensus is replace with the updated same model. John D and Tom Sullivan responded with a replacement of the same size.

I called Pentair, the manufacturer of Shurflo, (800-445-8360), and the sizing tech stated the upgraded units are noisier and “If it was my RV, I would replace the  2088-422-144 with the updated direct replacement Shurflo 2088-554-144 3.5gal per min, 45psi.”

                Ordered and on it’s way.
