      Hi,

I’m back, Thank you for your assistance with (no co) on the fridge. Found it was a different fuse than the one labeled Fridge. Go figure? Reset and works perfectly.

Ok my next issue is the furnace. As crazy as this sounds I can’t find a thermostat on the wall?

Only one I’ve found is the carrier Ac/ heat pump control for the roof unit.

      Praying for help.

      Thank you Guy

        Guy,

if you have a heat loin not just an ac unit, that one wall or remote control should turn on the heat pump when you want heat, if it gets too cold outside it will run both the heat pump and turn on the propane furnace. If it gets even colder, it does not turn on the heat pump, just the furnace.

if someone swapped out the heat pump on the roof for a simple a/c unit they may not have connected a of the wires in the ac control box.

        make sense?

to add to confusion, about that time units came with flat Carrier units- many of which crapped put long ago. Some bought complete replacement systems control bodd as red and thermostats. Others bought adapter kits so they could use some of the old carrier parts – the control board and the remote.

Iif you list your mfg of the rooftop unit and send a picture of the wall control, others or I might be able to say more.

We have the Carrier heat pump on the roof with the single thermostat that controls both the heat pump and the furnace.  The good news is that both seem to work OK, most of the time.  The problem is the occasions when they seem to have a mind of their own.  For example, when it is in the mid-30’s and below and the furnace doesn’t come on even when I selected it.

FYI, we had a physically identical Carrier low profile heat pump on our Arctic Fox for 11 years and while its performance was lame in temps below 40, it did work OK at maintaining the coach interior temperature.  We would use the separate thermostat to run the furnace to get the interior comfortable and then maintain it with the heat pump.  Unfortunately, the compressor broke after 11 years and it cost $2,700 to replace the heat pump with a new Penguin II low-profile heat pump in mid-2022.

We would love to modify the heat pump and furnace to use separate thermostats like the good ol’ days, but we’ve been told that’s impossible.

As an alternative, we are considering installing a ‘CheapHeat‘ electric furnace between the LP furnace and the ductwork.

Our question is. . . has anyone converted the existing Carrier heat pump/LP furnace “system” to one where the heat pump and furnace are controlled by separate thermostats?

                John,

                That’s it!

I’ve had a trailer and a cabover I still use for fishing over the years and they seemed pretty easy and straight forward.

This 5th wheel is little elaborate to say the least.

This site has been worth the $25 and then some. Worth its weight in GOLD!

This was a jewel of a find. It’s like new and still has the original tires on it. The folks that were original owners only used its handful of times.

                Thanks for the help!

                  Steve/all,

nope, this is NOT camping. It is living WELL.

separate thermostats is possible. Turn the main thermostat to OFF. Run new wires form new thermostat directly to furnace.

been too long, but I think that at the furnace the blue wire is the “on,”. You just need to get + power to the thermostat. When the new thermostat says it is warm enough, the furnace turns the burner off but continues to run the fan until the chamber cools off.

adding a one way diode between the thermostat lead to the blue line (if that is the color) is a good idea.
