on recent outing, we lost several electrical circuits (ie no power to any receptable, switch or whatever on the circuit.  The circuits that were lost was the 2 general purpose circuits, the hot water heater, and the refrigerator. The strange thing is that none of the breakers tripped.  The GFI Breaker circuit, Laundry Room, and Microwave circuits continued to work.  I am not sure about the  AC circuit because the AC was not being use.  Preliminary investigation showed that there was power at each of the breakers involved (took a reading from black to white).  So just wondering if there might be something common between the bad circuits that would cause loss of power to the entire circuit.  Or maybe the breakers are bad even though they did not trip.  I was connected to a 50 Amp plug with a surge guard connected.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?   I did find a 2005 compass schematic on this site that helps some. I am thinking I will check continuity on receptable in each circuit and then try replacing the breakers to see if that does solve the problem. any thoughts would be appreciated.

        David,

nothing solid to suggest, but maybe the campground had a bad leg to your site?  Not unheard of. If the breakers affected are ever other one left to right – that would explain it.

Was it the same at two different campgrounds?

one lazy breaker, maybe.  But 3 I doubt.

        good luck

sorry for the delay in following up.

It turns out that I did lose one leg, but it was in the Automatic Transfer Switch.  A couple of wires (leg 2) to the distribution panel were fried.  In researching the problem, it turns out that my ATS had a recall back in 2014 because of overheating.   The leading cause is the terminals get loose and cause the overheating.  I found out that it is recommended that you torque the terminals every year.  Of course, the location of the ATS doesn’t really make that possible.  I am not sure that it was loose terminals or the way the wires were packed in there (several crossing over each other and touching each other).

Anyway, I replaced the ATS, connected the shore power, generator cables and the cable to the distribution box.  everything seems to be working again.   I also relocated the ATS so i have access to it from the storage compartment, bought a torque wrench and torqued the terminals to 35-inch pounds.

            Hello all,

So, I am having a similar problem and instead of starting a new thread, just thought I would bring this one back to life in case any of you thought it could be relevant.

Everything had been working fine.  I used hot water that morning and all good. Tried to use it again in the evening and cold. The very next day, the thermostat went blank. Both of them are on a ‘tandem’ breaker together, but it wasn’t tripped; nothing was tripped.  I had no other issues with anything NOT working.  So, went to youtube university and fb and replaced the heating element.  I did check the continuity of the on/off switch and I think it was good, but this is how I did it. I removed the switch. I checked both ends with switch in off position and no beep on multimeter. I turned switch on and there was a beep.  This means it is good, right?  I did same thing with breaker.

So, to totally throw a wrench into your thinking. Several weeks later, I notice a green/white loop of electrical wire hanging down from back, passenger side and decide to go investigate.  It is within a few feet of the stabalizer back there. There is a zippered area there where you can access the underbelly. I didn’t see anything, but of course I didn’t know what to look for either. I shoved the wiring back up in there and zippered it shut. Go back in trailer and POOF. The A/C panel is working again and so is the a/c, but still no water heater.  Any ideas?  This is a 2007 Carriage- Carriage  CW374.

It was green and yellow wire, looks like it connects to slide motor also and I’ve always had problems with it not wanting to bring in slide.

It was green and yellow wire, looks like it connects to slide motor also and I’ve always had problems with it not wanting to bring in slide as in by itself, the slide won’t move, but if I pull on slide while I’m pushing ‘slide in’ button, it will slowly inch along.
