      Hello All

I am about to pull the trigger on a 2015 LifeStyle that has been sitting for at least the last 18 months without power.

Any suggestions what to check for will be greatly appreciated.

      Phil

        Hi,

The Carriage / Lifestyle rigs are awesome RVs and very well built. We absolutely love ours. Very comfortable rig to live in or just vacation in.

We bought our LS used . It had also been sitting unused for over a year however it was stored inside most of that time. Ours was in like new condition inside but had some cosmetic issues outside, most of which we have taken care of.

Others with way more expertise than us will chime in I’m sure.  We spent 3 afternoons going through ours with a fine tooth comb before purchasing. Most of what we found was cosmetic and inflicted by the previous owners .

One thing to be aware of if it hasn’t had the wiring upgrade between batteries and slide motors it may seem sluggish moving the slide or may not operate properly. Note that this is a fairly easy fix so don’t let that deter you . We did ours right after we got it, made a big difference in slide operations.

Depending on where it’s been sitting and what attention it’s had over the last 18 months , the batteries and tires might need attention.  Ours was stored in a barn by previous owners and we didn’t find any evidence of rodents, etc even though it had sat unattended for a long time. However it had a ton of dryer sheets in every drawer, corner and nook and cranny ! Took about 6 months to get the dryer sheet smell out.

We were especially impressed with the frame these rigs have, fit and finish , and the beautiful cabinetry. Definitely a keeper !

Best of luck to you !

Batteries, tires, general suspension inspection and repack the bearings should take care of sitting still for so long.  Hopefully they blocked the fridge doors open so that there was some air flow in there.  Without new batteries or hooked up to shore power, it will be hard to test anything.

              Moo2613

I purchased form a dealer that only deals in used RV and sells new park models.

They were very straight forward and had put the unit on 50 amp and water the day before we did our inspection.

Everything worked and we did purchase.

As for the refer they did not keep the doors open and the shelves had mold on them and between the glass and the plastic frames. We soaked them in vinegar and water for 24 hrs then used a water pick to clean the mold from between the plastic frame and the glass.

The batteries are 3 years old as well as the Goodyear G614 tires. The axles are the 8,000 lb axle but when I went under the trailer the brake drums look like the brake shoes would be the wide ones like on the Lippert axles and I could not find the Dexter numbers that are normally on the front of the axle tube.

However the brakes are much more effective than the ones on the 7,000 lb axles under the Montana.

I towed it home 100 miles and checked the hubs with a laser thermometer several time and didn’t get any temp over 110 F.

Thanks for all of your advice.

I can’t help much on the light fixture but to do nice caulking, I tape off with blue painters tape on both sides, apply fairly thin bead of caulk, and smooth it with a wet finger being careful to have thin overlap on the blue tape.  Let it set for a few minutes then pull the tape off.  Nice clean lines.  I’ve pretty much redone all the exterior caulking on ours, and also had to redo the bottom of the shower door enclosure.  Looks good as new!

                  Best of luck to you!

For light fixture, pull down slightly on the outer glass and twist counterclockwise.  There is a notch where the outer glass drops down in about 1/8 of a turn.

The trick is to not pull down too hard- if you do the entire fixture, not just the outer lens twists and nothing comes apart.
