On another thread JDPM & JohnD222 mentioned adding mud flaps to their rig. I just wanted to say thank you guys for the suggestion. I picked up a set of generic 12×18 mud flaps for 7.50 a piece at Napa and modified the tops of them by removing about 1/2″ of width with a razor blade. They fit right in and look sharp and ought to be very functional in keeping the bigfoot pumps and jacks clean. I cleaned my rear bigfoot pumps and jacks and with less than one year of traveling, they were caked up with mud and grime really really bad. This should alleviate a lot of that. I was even able to install them without removing the wheels though it made it a bit of a bear getting hands back there.

Thanks again guys for the awesome suggestion, it worked out great! :)

Hi Stax – I couldn’t find the other thread you referred too, can you point to it? How did you fasten the mud flaps, screws into the wheel well? I still have the rear screw jacks, but I think the flaps would help keep them clean also.

Hello Greg – Here is the link to the thread:

The mud flaps can be secured with wood screws. I used wood screws with small fender washers, they attach to the wood in the wheel well. As stated on the other thread, using some undercoating on the wood will help to waterproof it. I chose not to remove the wheels on my unit because I live in the unit and am presently set up at a campsite, so my slides are out, and while I could use the bigfoot to lift the entire rig to remove the tire, I tend to not do that while slides are out because it tweaks them and threatens to damage them. I did buy the undercoating as someone suggested, but I will hang on to it until the next time the wheels are removed and apply it to the exposed wood in the wheel wells at that time.

Here is a picture of one of the mudflaps after installation:

Good four you and glad the suggestion helped. Sounds like you go the same flaps I got from NAPA. I think you will be very pleased. Safe travels.
