Been looking at a 2014 Ram DRW . Wondering how much sag there is when the trailer is connected ? Are air bags required ?
Truck has 4.10 rearend 68rfe tranny.

        Thanks

With hitch weight of 3,285 lbs. has no sag. No plans of adding air bags
I did install air bags on last Ram 2500 truck with our last Sunnybrook that setup sagged

I own a 12 3500 DRW and had a slight sag in the rear. I added Firestone bags and it’s nice and level now with 20# of air in each bag.

        Bob,

You have received two differing answers, one from an owner that has a shorter unit and likely has a pin weight less than you and one that is longer and likely a pin weight more than you. How heavy you load your rig versus travel light can greatly affect the answer for the identical pickup and 5er combo. If you are more than a weekender but keep your fresh water tank only 1/4 full, I would, for planning purposes, expect a pin closer to 3800#.

With 4.10’s the truck should have the heavier GVWR and payload (spring set), but not necessarily. Remember, regardless if spring set, the factory payload specs is reduced by all factory options, fuel, people other than driver, aftermarket stuff you add to the truck, stuff in cab and bed, and your hitch, then pin load. That non-pin stuff takes away almost 1800# of my rated payload.

If the truck rides like a concrete truck empty you probably won’t sag much with that pin weight and all of your stuff in the truck, and the ride will be much better with load. If it rides somewhat smoothly empty, you will probably end up with air bags if you pull a heavy 5er. You may or may not need them, but if you are marginal, their cost might be partially offset by better front tire life.
