- I am wondering about those two type of anode that you seen at Rv dealer or online. I have Suburban. From what I see one is made of Magnesium and the other is aluminum. Our camper is at the private campground. They use well water. I am not sure which is better. Thanks!Posted: 8:36 AM – Apr 11, 2014I don’t think it matters. They work because the anode is a preferred corrosion point as compared to the water heater tank. As long as there is some anode to corrode, your tank is protected. They should be checked once a year.Posted: 5:10 PM – Apr 11, 2014Magnesium is more protective on the electrogalvanic scale, and works better at protecting steel than aluminum.
I heard Suburban say that if the aluminum rod lasts more than a year, use the magnesium one.
If the magnesium rod lasts less than a year, use the aluminum one.If you get both?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Alternate between the two?Sheff
