I’m thinking of getting a GPS designed for RVing and was wondering if there is anything new on the market or your recommendations?

        Thanks.

I had a TomTom, that I was happy with for years. So two months ago I up graded to the TomTom 1605M RV as I was concerned about the height of the Lifestyle. So far, no complaints.

Best price I found was Amazon.

I bought the 760 DEZL from Garmin. you set it up for RV and you punch in your height.
It will warn you of low clearance. It is very complete in the USA but not that good in Canada
So I bought a 1 year subscription from
        http://www.lowclearances.com/
it is cheap and woth it.
plus a 5 inch GPS is something good when you have big finger.
        Very happy with the combo

After using a Garmin Nuvi model with lowclearance plugin subscription for years, I bought a 7 inch Good Sams Rand McNally RV unit. It was a steep learning curve coming from the Garmin but i think that i have it down now. Both are much better than the units built into pickups.

        The plugins and discussions at
        http://www.poi-factory.com/
Are very helpful, but you will find very little info about the Rand unit.

Via membership in the above you get all of the plugins for Garmin and TomTom units that Rand comes with out of the box, and any additional ones seem to be a lot easier for those inits than Rand due to the file structure.

I still have my Garmin and Garmin notifies me each time a map or program update is available. Not so with Rand – you must use pc and srart their dock program in order to find out your maps/program is out of date.

Rand has Gas Buddy, weather and traffic everywhere – not just big cities, all via hotspot wifi connection to phone or dedicated hotspot. Program in weight, height, length for routing and quick swap to lesser restrictive routing for vehicle w/o 5er and back again. However, only within the past 6 months did they fix routing of rv’s around parkways in the northeast – they have been banned from these roadways for over 30 years.
