To extend my boondcking time between fills I am looking into adding a 2nd fresh water tank in my 2007 Cameo 35FD3. I will be adding an outside shower at the same time to ease my grey water tank needs. To add the 2nd fresh water tank I am thinking of placing a 30 gal tank in the basement and plumbing it directly into the system via the winterizing line. Once my main tank empties I would simply turn the winterizing T and pull water from the 2nd tank. Does anyone see any issues with this technique? I already understand the impact on weight.
        Thanks, Carl

You might consider using blue 5 gal water jugs instead. They are portable and easier to refill.

x2. We carry 4 big bottles for 20 gallons drinking / cooking water. Tastes better than tank water and helps stretch the fresh tank.

That would work. You can T into the vent hose for the new tank that way there wouldn’t be an issue with spilling water while traveling or collapsing the tank unless you used a flexible water tank then there is no need for venting.

We’ve been looking at the same thing or swapping the 72gal for a larger than 100gal. On ours there is 6-8″ above the tank that is dead space that could be water if we customized the tank or found one that fit…..it will depend if we pull the trigger on the 8000k axles.

I am sure you realize that adding a larger water tank will add to your pin weight. Your have a 2016 Ford F350, we have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500, both diesel SRW. Our pin is close to 3,000 lbs and we are closing in on our rear axle and tire rating (7.050 lbs). I am sure you have considered that.

Appreciate the heads up Rick….we are at +/-2600lbs on the pin and there is only a few pounds left on CVWR as such we don’t travel with water in the tanks.

We’ve been able to fill up at the camp site but as we found out on our trip in Nov water sources are infrequent when temps are hovering around freezing.

We maybe filling the tank with melted (no pink or yellow) snow at the campsite until Santa delivers a F450.

The kids are writing to Santa asking for ABS brakes on the 8000lb suspension.
