I have a 2011 Carri-lite. When I am park at a RV park for several months, do I leave the battery  shut off switch on or off ? I am leaving it on now. Thanks Farmerboy

According to my understanding, when your trailer is sitting unoccupied with no power hookup, you should turn the switch off to stop battery drain.

Assuming you’re living in the trailer at the RV park you should leave the battery isolation switch on so the converter can maintain a charge on the battery/s; just like if you were camping for a few days here & there.

Something else to be aware of that may apply to your trailer too: on my current and previous trailers the battery isolation sw. does not totally isolate the battery/s from the trailer electrical system. With the battery sw. in OFF I can still operate the slides and landing gear. When storing the trailer for winter, once I have the trailer winterized and setup in its’ storage location, I’ll remove both batteries and take them to the house where they can be stored in a warmer location. When spring comes I’ll check fluid level in the cells is correct, charge them, and then install them back into the trailer.

Our inverter and residential fridge are wired around the shutoff. Tech thought it was strange. I’ll bet one of you experts can tell my why ??? And how do we keep these things from draining the battery while stored. We can turn the inverter off and fridge compressor off. That’s the best we know to do unless one of you experienced folks can give us better instructions. THANKS !

The easiest way to power down everything is to disconnect the batteries…. Rich

What I did was, installed a knife switch on the negative post works great.

On the subject of shutting off everything, I also pull the fuse that’s located in the Big Foot control panel area. At least in the case of disc brakes, the fuse controls the pump on the breakaway side. If the cable is pulled for any reason other than an actual break a way, then the pump is going to run until it burns out or runs down the battery.

I would love to see a photo of your battery setup. Sounds like what we need!

I used one of these on my boat for several years. Simple and effective.
They run anywhere from six to twelve bucks.
