I was checking my leveling system today and found the right rear leveler, a big foot, had a loose pad. I retracted the ram all the way and tried to tighten the nut in the bottom of the pad. The ram spun and the nut would not tighten. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of things. The pad should not be so tight as to not allow movement for uneven ground. The spec calls for the nut to be tightened to show approximately 1/8″ of thread below the nut. If yours, still needs tightening, you can use a strap wrench on the ram. (as low as possible to avoid even the possibility of galling the ram) When I recently replaced one of my jacks due to failure, I used an impact wrench and tightened the nut almost perfectly without using the strap. Good luck.

While you there check the ball switches at the bottom of the jack. I found 1 was seized and another just about seized direction.

Thanks for the information. I will check the switches and get a strap wrench on the ram. It is so loose it is a little concerning to even drive it down the road. Has anyone heard of the threads on the ram ever stripping? That is my next concern.

The jacks themselves are warranted for life. I don’t know if stripped threads would count, I would call Quadra.

The amount of +/- swivel can be compared form one jack to another.

With the jack extended say 2″ push the edge of the landing pad down and measure from the ground to the edge of the pad.

Next push the same edge up and measure again. The difference will give you a reference distance that can be compared to the other jacks.

Edit: The landing pads on trailer pivot +/-2″
