What do you put under your Big Foot Pads to help distribute the load when you are parked on grass or asphalt? We have a Lifestyle 36FW on order and this will be our first trailer with auto levelling.
We currently put boards under our jacks but the boards we use now are about the same size as the new Big Foot Pads (about 10″ around).
Thanks for your help!
ToddPosted: 11:56 AM – Jan 23, 2013For most surfaces I don’t put anything under the Bigfoot pads. If I think it might sink in, I’ll use a 2×10 section under each pad. I carry a few of these with me in case I have a site that is extremely unlevel and some extra lift is needed under the pads. That’s pretty rare, but it has happened a couple of times.Posted: 12:29 PM – Jan 23, 2013I use boards under all four unless we are on a solid surface (concrete pad). I cut some boards in squares that are larger than the circumfrence of the bigfoot pads by about 3 inches. Been using them since we bought the coach in 2010. Works for me.Posted: 2:46 PM – Jan 23, 2013gtfiver wrote:For most surfaces I don’t put anything under the Bigfoot pads. If I think it might sink in, I’ll use a 2×10 section under each pad. Posted: 4:32 PM – Jan 23, 2013I have parked on most everything from sand (it was packed down) to concrete and I have not had to use any boards with Bigfoot. On my last rig I had lots of lumber and blocks, I did keep some of the wood boards that I cut from 2×6’s just in case. The back of my truck at one time looked like a lumber yard.

Posted: 6:00 PM – Jan 23, 2013I also use pressure treated 2×10 boards about 3 foot long. But I also have them sandwiched between plywood cut to size. Helps stop the 2×10 from cracking and warping like elf shoes.
KevinPosted: 6:42 PM – Jan 23, 2013After a year under our belt with our Cameo I have left all my lumber home, so far I’ve not found a need to put anything under the pads. On our old fiver I always used something under the feet.Posted: 7:01 PM – Jan 23, 2013For anyone who may find that they need something under the Big Foot jack pad, here is a great solution. My Dad was in the heavy construction business and used these. They work-out very, very well. I have found that I wished I had them just one time so far. Phillip

Had a friend who set up near us at a rally at a fairground. Had “standard” legs (not bigfoot).
It rained a fair amount and his rig sunk in the ground. The pads were “V” shaped after we got him back up. Think something under pads is a good idea if not on packed gravel/concrete.
My 2 cents and worth both pennies.
Posted: 8:05 PM – Jan 23, 2013We carry 4 pcs of 1-1/8″ 16″ x 16″ subfloor plywood and use them when when not on a hard surface.Posted: 9:45 PM – Jan 23, 2013Add us to the group who either never or rarely uses anything under our BF pads. BUT we do look at the area we are going to park 1st and if needed, we will use those yellow lego looking like blocks. Hugs, DiPosted: 7:25 AM – Jan 24, 2013Thanks everyone. I have 2×10 boards now which are very large under the small jacks of the Jayco but the footprint of the BF pads will fill the entire width of the 2×10. The Outrigger pads look nice but are pricy. I may look for a sheet of plywood and cut some 16X16 squares – that size seems right to have just in case they are needed.Posted: 10:24 AM – Jan 24, 2013It’s heavy, but I carry 4 X 4’s. There was one time we were put on a site that was very slanted and the BF was not able to level the coach. There was always one BF off the ground. So I carry these monsters to keep the pads off the ground and also for insurance.Posted: 2:19 PM – Jan 24, 2013The 1-1/8″ Advantech is the best. It’s about 50.00 a sheet. Has a 50 year warranty.Posted: 3:34 PM – Jan 24, 2013retamaman wrote:I use boards under all four unless we are on a solid surface (concrete pad). DonPosted: 7:06 PM – Jan 24, 2013We have blocks like the ones used to block up a mobile home, made of 2 x 6″ boards. We are of the belief that the trailer is more stable when the Bigfoot jacks are not near their full extensionPosted: 4:49 PM – Jan 25, 2013rwb_wl wrote:We have blocks like the ones used to block up a mobile home, made of 2 x 6″ boards.
