I own an LS36FW with a residential refrigerator, where we are going has no electric or water and no sewer,
Question, has anyone boondocked with a residential refrigerator, did you have to run generator 24/7?

KeymasterWe have. a res fridge. We have 4 6 volt golf cart batteries and our 65KW Onan generator. When we boondock we normally only run the generator to charge the batteries back up , cook, etc. Usually in the morning while doing breakfast, at dinnertime and we run it about 9:30 at night for about an hour so everything is all charged up for the night. We have never run our generator 24/7. & we watch TV and computer/printer as we normally would Hope this helps. Hugs, Di

It depends of course on your batteries. Type, condition, etc
We have 2 Battle Born lithium batteries with a Victron 712 battery monitor and a res fridge. No charging coming from the truck and on an 8 hour travel day we use 50-60 amp hours. I don’t know if this matches what we should see, only this is what I see from the monitor in our first 10 days we have had this setup.

Interested to know how others do with boondocking . We just bought an Onan 4500i generator with the idea that someday we could boondock but haven’t tried it out yet. We also have residential fridge. 3 batteries.

KeymasterIn my opinion you should be fine. We are on our 24th year of fulltime RV’ing and have boondocked many, many times {especially in Quartzsite, AZ}. The way it works for us is:
We have an inverter that takes care of the fridge/freezer only. We use our separate inverter which is for the rest of our RV. We check the monitor panel on a regular basis and when it gets below a certain number, we run the generator until it charges up the batteries then shut her down. We have our RV set up to we can have our cake and eat it too! Our inverter allows us to watch TV, use the computer/printer and other “can’t live without” things !!
For us the inverter is the key to live & enjoy the quiet and not be a nuisance to “neighbors”. We usually run our generator in the morning to charge the batteries during breakfast, again at diner time and usually around 9 or 10 pm for an hour which sees us comfortably thru the night.
Hope this helps. Hugs, Di

KeymasterI’m glad you found our info helpful. We “did” “Q” as the old timers called it probably 15 times over the years. We still hope to meet up with a group out there again one day but I still remember our first time as the best time!!
