We are building a cabin and recently picked up an older Carriage CW374 to use as a base during the build. It’s in pretty decent shape and most everything works in it, but I have a puzzling problem with the Carefree Awning.

I don’t have the model number, but it is motorized, has a wind sensor to automatically retract and even a fob to control it remotely.

My problem is that it runs backwards. Retract on the switch or the fob extends it and extend retracts it. When I first realized it I thought no big deal, but then we left it in the automatic mode and it would self- deploy when it got windy. Precisely what you don’t want to happen. We aren’t using the automatic mode anymore but I would like to get it straightened out. Any thoughts or wiring diagrams that might explain this?

      thanks

        East, once you know.

Run it all the way out using the retract button and just keep going and it will start to roll itself back up. (Retract is now retracting.

don’t trust it?  Stop as it is halfway or all the way in and push the extend button.

        all fixed.

the last 6-inches of the awning that usually hangs down in the front will take a while to fall into place because it has been rolled the wrong way so long.

Interesting,  I’ll try that out when I get back there in a couple of days and report back.

the part that hangs down in the front is indeed folded funny.

            Nope

You can’t extend/retract it past the limits. Also, while it’s operating in reverse, the awning is unrolled properly with the roller under the awning

I’m thinking it has the motor wires reversed but I’m not sure where that would occur

My older version has no such limits.

No idea how that “wiring switch” happened.

Much easier to take out the switch itself and reverse the wires. Mark them before you remove them. Leave the battery leads in place, and switch the other wires. That switch is what sends direct or reverse polarity to the awning motor.

Didn’t know they put limits on awnings.  You can swap the motor wires and fix the motor run direction but they need to swapped before they go into the limits.  If you revers just the motor wires the limits will operate in reverse and the awning may be stuck in either the in or out position.
