Check Valve issue – Fresh Water Tank

Hi,

We are having an issue where our fresh water tank is filling up when on city water. The first time it happened we switched it to fresh water and ran the pump. When fresh tank was almost  empty switched back to city water and all was good .

We are now in another location living temp full time in our Lifestyle and the fresh water tank is filling up again when on city water. This time it doesn’t resolve itself when we switch to fresh water and run the pump.  We are thinking we need to replace the check Valve. Water pump works fine .

Has anyone else had this issue? How much  of a job is it to change out? We would do it ourselves.

I have stop water filling water into tank by using the winterizing hose. If you turn the winterizing valve half way, it will stop water going into fresh water tank. Water will start filling winterizing hose than hold your thump over end hose this should fixed check valve and stop water.  Make sure turn winterizing valve back.

Check Valve is built into the pump. It can get stuck in both directions. Not fun job to replace water pump

My coach did the same thing.  I replaced the three way directional valve with a new brass one and found the same problem.  Then I did what I should have initially done and researched the problem.  Found this is a very common problem with the check valve located inside the water pump.  Found that you can replace the internal check valve but most people have limited luck with this.  I replaced the water pump, which I found to be an easy job, and have had no problems since.

Thanks everyone. We will try bolljl’s suggestion next. Then if it keeps filling fresh tank we may just get a new pump. Hate to buy one if we don’t have to because ours does work . For now we are letting it fill fresh tank then turning off hose at spigot and running the pump. Seems to have better pressure when running off the pump too.

I installed 1/2″ Sharkbite check valve a couple of year ago…..but now the pump is cycling which mean the diaphrams are going. I just order parts to rebuild the pump.

We stopped at an RV place in Carlsbad last weekend but were not able to find the right check valve. We’ve been just using the pump and fresh water tank and switched it back to city water a couple days ago and it’s now working normally. Since we can’t get packages delivered at the park we are at we will order parts when we get back home . Fingers crossed it stays working right on city water til we go back !

I had the same problem, I just cut the line on the out-put side of the pump and installed a 1/4 turn ball valve, no more problems. When boondocking with no hook-ups turn valve so it is open, when hooked up to city water close it.
