- WE have a Sharp R-1880LS Convection Microwave oven. Cooking with a convection oven is new to us. We are finding that our unit takes a very long time to preheat (up to 45 min.) Some of the recipes call for preheating to 400 Deg. Also, we put in a oven thermometer and find that the temp registered does ot get a high as the dialed in temp as pet the directions. Is this normal?
RayPosted: 7:56 AM – Jun 09, 2014No. It should not take that long to get hot.Posted: 8:21 PM – Jun 09, 2014Ours takes about 10-15 minutes to preheat to that temp. Also, once we figured out that if recipe says 400, we use 375 and the cooking time stays pretty normal.
If you use the convection/micro feature it can shorten cooking time but we’ve found some recipes work well with this and others not so much. Suggest you reference a convection cookbook/on line resource to help answer which will do well and which not.
Finally, we’re at just under 8000′ of elevation and do not make an adjustment at this height. If we camped at 10,000′ or so and were baking that might change, but we’ve not yet had it be an issue.
If you’re not getting to temp. and it’s taking that long to preheat, it sounds like there’s a problem.
Posted: 9:14 AM – Jun 10, 2014Thanks for the responses. We have been in contact with Lifestyle as well as with Sharp. During our last contact with Sharp, just a couple days ago, they agreed that something was wrong and agreed to send us a new unit. Won’t get it until late this week. Comeupwithsomething, we are home in NH so our elevation should not be a problem , we are only at 350′. But, had not thought about there being an elevation problem. Will have to keep this in mind.
