Cylinder is pitted on right front big foot cylinder! Picture below shows black
spots that are the pits 4 or 5. I was lubricating cylinders when I spotted this.
No leaks or nothing. Was just wondering how bad a thing that could be.
It never has given me a problem. I guess in am I’ll call big foot and see.

I am surprised that they have pits, especially since you lubricate them which should also protect them. I have heard to use either silicone or teflon spray. I clean mine with a towel everytime before I use them. But grit would cause vertical lines in it, and not pits. Do you live near the ocean or any area that would have a acid atmosphere?

Let us know what happens with BF.

The only sure way to fix it is to replace the cylinder but it looks like you caught it early enough that you can repair it. Might even be under warranty if they are new enough. If they are not covered under warranty then I would just polish the spots with some 0000 steel wool and put a good coat of silicone on them and check them every so often and re coat them. Might even put a dab of silicone grease on the spots after you polish them. Hope this helps. Don’t sweat it, they don’t look too bad. I have had worse pitting on some of my tractors with no problems.

I live in East Texas, don’t live close to ocean. I haven’t owned 2011 37CKSLS RV very long since May 8th 2013.
Since I didn’t buy new probably warranty out the window. The big one almost seems like a flaw in manufacturing
it’s deep, but not leaking. I used to work on blow-out-preventers long long time ago
I hate to say I have wiped them off, but haven’t put a dry silicon spray until today.

One reason I have asked so many questions I want keep my home going good. Like Dutch & Di since 1996!

        Thanks for your help.

        Thanks for the reply

Keep in mind that even a small ding in the chrome on the cylinder can cause them to rust. Rocks thrown from a lawn mower or weed eater can ding the chrome and cause rust. keep them clean and keep them sprayed.

I sure don’t want nothing happening to my bigfoot.
I’ll search and see how to repair.

I was using silicone each time we moved the cylinders, if I didn’t they made a noise, but after talking to the factory they recommend Teflon and it does a far better job.

The only downside of the BigFoot system is you need to clean them almost every time you use them, but after they’re clean its sure nice to just push a button.

Where do you find spray Teflon, I have been using spray silicone since we got our Cameo two years ago, but would like to properly maintain the cylinders.

        Thanks, Rick

We use DuPont Teflon and get it at Lowe’s. I’m sure you can get it at your local hardware or big box store.

Mine is doing the same thing. Same road-side front position. My mobile service guy took pics and asked Big foot about them. Of course they said it wasnt to bad and just keep an eye on it. We can replace it later if it get worse. Use Teflon spray.
I thought yeah after the labor warranty is up. I live in a very upscale RV resort on the Texas coast so I can see lots of Big Foots(feet??) and none of them have pits.

I have found Tefoln, but there are different types. Could you enter either exactly what the can says on it or a pic of the can?

Just make sure it’s a Teflon that it’s a dry Spray Lubricant, wd40 stuff sticks to it..
I bough the one I us at walleys world.
Not this brand, but it says it’s dry, that’s what big foot suggests .

        Good luck.

Every time I move, it wipe and silicone. If I set very long I do it.
Pits don’t seem to be getting worse.

I picked up a can of Dupont Teflon at Lowes yesterday and will be spraying my Bigfoot pistons but shouldn’t they be cleaned first? What is the recommended cleaning procedure? Is use of some kind of solvent recommended?

I get a rag, paper towel and any clean cloth, wipe them off, spray lightly and wipe again.
Also it’s good to spray where the cylinder goes in. I do it often.
