- We have a number of “dummy plates”, they are a wall socket plate but have no plugs in’s, just a straight black plate. If I pull the plates I find what looks like either 12 volt or 120. What is the purpose of these plates? If they are access points why not a chart showing what they are for.Posted: 10:45 PM – Sep 23, 2013Blank plates are used over junction boxes as wiring is brought to an area and then distributed to the devices (plugs and switches) The device boxes used in RVs have small cubic inch capacity so it isn’t possible to make up multiple connections in the box.
