I have a recently purchased 2011 Cameo 34SB3. When it is plugged in to shore power I have a constant low volume buzzing noise coming from the area of the bathroom/hallway to the bedroom area. I can hear it a little louder from the forward basement area rear side. I have not removed the panels in that area hoping to get an answer here to the source of the noise. If I turn all circuit breakers off the noise continues. If I unplug the power source it stops. The battery charger in the forward storage area makes no noise at all.

      Any ideas what’s causing this?

      Thanks,

      Bill

Unknown, but a question.  Do you have an inverter or generator?  If so, it may be the associated transfer switch.  Humming may indicate bad contact points.

        Hope that others can help.

Thanks for your response John.. I have neither a generator or inverter. I found another problem today. Both of my new house batteries are run down. I’ve had the trailer hooked to 110 volts at home for about 3 weeks. I checked the output of the OEM battery charger and it’s about 14.6 volts. But I’m not reading any charging current reaching the battery terminals. The fuse on the charging circuit checks out OK.. Not sure what’s going on.

            Bill,

            How old are your batteries?

my OEM lasted 15 months.  My first set of 6-volt golf cart batteries lasted 3 years.  Added solar and easy-fill water system.  I am now 40 months and all ok.

<p style=”text-align: right;”>You might not have a generator but your unit might have generator prep. Generally a buzzing noise is the holding coil of the transfer switch. Usually you have to replace the switch to get rid of the problem.</p>

Thanks for your response. I do have the prep package. Where would that transfer switch be located?

Not sure on your rig. Ours is in the front storage on the back wall. If you replace it go with a high quality switch. Less chance of buzzing down the road.

I just had my Iota transfer switch go out. These switches were recalled and ours went out with a pop and a lot of burn damage inside the switch.  We count ourselves fortunate there was no fire. Since we have a portable generator and have no intention to add an Onan we opted to do away with the switch. the box in the front compartment is “dead”.  If we decide at some point down the road to add a generator I will add a quality transfer switch at that time. For now it seems that it is one less thing to go wrong.

Ours was located behind the false wall in the pass through. About 5′ from the head of the bed so we could hear it all night.

If you don’t use the transfer switch you could take it out and replace it with a junction box that has 50A terminals blocks rated for 600VAC.  The wires from the shore plug and dist panel would be connected together. The wire for the generator would be taped off.

I took out the auto switch out and installed a manual transfer switch.

                          Hello

Ours is humming as well I just haven’t had time to remove it. I will probably just bypass it I use a pair of Honda Inverter sets when we need portable power. They are light and store well in the front gen compartment with the rest of my treasures.

I also removed the buzzing transfer switch in the front basement and used that location and wiring to install my in-line surge protector (Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C). For the rare times I need a generator, I use a Predator 3500 inverter gen. Works great and just as quiet as the Hondas. I’m sure it won’t last as long as a Honda but is considerably cheaper.
