Heated tanks?

I thought my LS had the heated water tanks, but I don’t have a switch for it, so I guess I don’t have it? How cold can we go and not risk freezing the pipes? Is there a recommended aftermarket system?

You do have heated waste tanks. BUT the furnace must be used to make the heat, there is no separate system.

My coach has heated tanks. Each tank has an electric pad attached to the bottom of it. There is a red switch on the basement wall adjacent to the curb side door that operates the pads.

You mentioned the pipes. The pipes are NOT heated. As mentioned, furnace heat keeps the basement warm enough to prevent them from freezing.

Lifestyle confirmed that I don’t have the tank pad system with separate switch, but I do have the furnace heat in the basement. How important are the heated pads in cold weather? I’m looking at a snow bank right now!

I have no idea how well these things are designed for below freezing living. The heating pads on the bottom of my tanks covered only a VERY small area. As long as the tanks are not full, you should have room for ice expansion. The flip side of that is the less water in the tanks, the easier it is to freeze.

Is below freezing weather just at night? Is it forecast to last a few days or several weeks? It’s late May for crying out loud!!!

Honestly I never considered it until I found out it’s a feature. I think the heated basement will keep us from freezing, since I turn on the furnace every morning. Yes it’s been a wet spring in the west. There’s still a good deal of snow at 8000 feet. We’re in Yellowstone now and planning a trip to Alaska in the fall.

A couple of years ago, we got into a cold snap. Overnight temps were in the mid teens, 40’s during the day. We don’t have the pads, and had no problems with freezing tanks or pipes. I did disconnect the hose at night and kept the fresh tank about half full.

Basement heat helps a lot versus what other mfg’s offer, but the electric heater silicone to.the bottom of the tank really helps avoid frozen drain valves. Not so much frozen so you can’t move them to drain, which might be an issue, as they break when frozen.
