Randy,
I have the 4-bag AirSafe 25k hitch with Binkley head. I think they only come with that head now. Mine is almost 11 years old now with 40k miles towing the 36fws. Zero problems. I replaced the shocks last summer – was probably overdue because I noticed the difference.
I have the MorRyde pin box. Great combo. No need to remove it.
The MorRyde pin box deals with fore-aft chucking only. What you describe does not seem normal unless you have something other than a MorRyde pin box such as the air-bag TrailAir pin box or you have some king of air-bag hitch already.
If you have neither, I suspect that your 5er frame is flexing too much in the pin box area. There are several postings and strings about such frame issues and some relatively easy fixes and a couple of more complex problems.. Phil (jdpm) even posted a video but I think he decided nothing was wrong. Popped screws on the molding holding the front cap in place or excessive popping when using big foot to take pin-load off the truck or when hooking up are indications of excessive frame flexing.
As an aside, I replaced the white donuts and the big rubber “shock/spring” inside 2 years ago. That I should have done sooner because everything was so rusted being here in Florida. The insides of the MorRyde has safety brackets in case that rubber fails. Such a failure would nresult in some serious clunking noises when traveling, not the “smooth action” you describe. So i think your pinbox itself is fine. The 5er frame area it attaches to what I question. More info from you per jdpm’s post would help.
Regarding an upgraded hitch for the truck, AirSafe had a used almost new “for sale” Accessories posting here a while ago. These hitches do an incredible job of absorbing the up and down motion. There are other manufacturers and approaches out there.
