- I am about to begin the installation of the wet-bolt kit on my 2008 35SB3 Cameo and wanted to clarify placement of the floor jacks and jack stands. I understand from reading in the forum you should NOT jack up the trailer with the jacks under the axles. Where exactly should I position the floor jack for raising the trailer and where should the jack stands be placed? I tried to find the answer by searching the forum but couldn’t find a clear reference.
I do not have Big Foot jacks and I remember reading I should hook-up the trailer to the truck for added safety.
Thanks for any help……….Paul
Posted: 9:42 AM – Jul 28, 2014Well, you couldn’t use the axles anyway as they have to be dropped to install the wet-bolt kit. I did a wet-bolt kit with a bigfoot system, but will suggest hooking up to the truck, and then jacking and crib blocking the frame somewhere out of the work area…in other words not near the leaf spring hangers. Unless you have some serious jacks kicking around this is probably going to be a real pain. I think it advisable to raise both sides, and Mor-ryde also recommends that…but have heard it is possible to do one side at a time. I suspect jacking and properly supporting the frame will be the biggest part of the job. Please be sure to use adequate cribbing or whatever…you’re going to spend some time under there! After that, it is a matter of following the instructions. You will need a floor jack to take the weight off of the axle as you suspend it to change the bolts and shackles. Make sure the grease zerks are on the inside and the holes are oriented according to the instructions…which are well done and pretty easy to follow. I am surprised that your 2008 didn’t have wet-bolts…my previous rig was a 2008 and did. I did this job after a shackle failure while in a campground…it’s a bit of a project, but not a big deal. Make sure you have all your tools as per the instructions, and it sure won’t hurt to have a friend handy. Check your Mor-ryde suspension shear blocks while you are at it…mine were completely torn on one side. I replaced both with a heavier shear block and got a better ride.Posted: 12:30 PM – Jul 28, 2014Forgive me for being a dummy, but do the Lifestyles have wet shackles and heavier shear blocks? Thanks, RichPosted: 3:32 PM – Jul 28, 2014You just high-jacked my post…………….Posted: 4:18 PM – Jul 28, 2014We ordered our Cameo with the wet bolt system. The problem we had was we needed to use the BigFoot system to take the weight off the wheels to grease them. I was unable to add grease to ¾ of the fittings without taking the weight off. I’m not sure it’s normal and you might want to check that out. If it’s the way to grease them and with out the BigFoot system it might be hard to maintain them.
I contacted MOR/ryde and they sent me a new set and I had them installed making sure that the fittings were in the right direction, but I sill had problems greasing them without taking the weight off.Posted: 7:35 AM – Jul 29, 2014I have to say that after comparing the hardware in the stock shackles and the upgrade kit I installed, I would do this upgrade even if I could never grease them. My bolts ripped right through my oem shackles. And if you have to put a jack under the frame every so often, what’s the big deal….beats breaking down on the side of the road.Posted: 6:34 PM – Jul 29, 2014That’s my thinking EXACTLY. Anything I can do to prevent a breakdown on the side of the road is a plus. After inspecting, looks like I’ll place the jack on the frame just behind the axles. There is a cross member here and access to the frame. Scary to jack this puppy up…..YIKES!!!
Posted: 7:31 AM – Jul 31, 2014Here is a link to the Mor-Ryde replacement criteria for the rubber shears. It’s only 4 more bolts to replace them if there is an issue, but they have to be purchased directly from the Mor-Ryde tech support folks. One of mine was torn through on the non fws side, but I have a bit of mileage on my rig. Gook luck!Posted: 5:45 AM – Aug 05, 2014Gotter done! Half the job was jacking up the Cameo and securing it on jack stands. It’s a little scary crawling around under neath the unit when those wheels are removed. Can you say squashed!!!My rubber shears were in great condition so they did not need replaced. The replacement shackles and wet bolts are sooooo much an improvement over the original construction it is amazing! Glad I did the upgrade!
