Our coach has been sitting on the driveway way to long now because of our need to address elderly parent issues, but next week, Gale and I are heading south for a bit so I am getting ready to hook up. I just don’t want to winterize it yet. While it has been sitting there I was wondering just how much electricity is used just to keep the systems alive. We leave the fridge on because we have things in there that we just leave in so we can cut down on the time it takes to reload and restock. But just how much is it costing me with the “phantom” usage (clocks, converter, tv, etc) along with the fridge? I plugged in a Kill-a-Watt meter in to measure the usage to find out.

The answer: 2.75 Kwh per day over the past month. Our cost per Kwh here is 12 cents/Kwh. So, just in case you might be wondering that amounts to $.33 per day. I was a little surprised it would be that low, but I am pleased.

In those parks (Some Escapee’s) that charge low rates but you pay for electricity, we’ve found our costs to be no more than about $2-$3 daily while occupied and usually one A/C running.
