- I finally decided to do something about the awning switches at floor level.
This is before. Having the closet here actually helped. I did the wiring in the closet, instead of having to go through the wall.
The first step (after emptying the closet) was to drill a hole in the floor of the closet to run the new wires.
Multi colored spaghetti. Each switch has 4 wires, here they are all fished, and ready for new connections.
I removed the closet door for access. Painter’s tape helps make the marking easier to see, and protects the surrounding wood.
The wires neatened up and secured to the wall with Gorilla tape. It’s not professional, but it’s inside a closet, who cares.
The finished project.
Materials ran under $20. It took me a couple of hours.

Posted: 9:28 AM – Oct 04, 2014Sweet! Good clean job Cliff. It worked for you anyway. I’m going to continue using my toe or standing outside to deploy my awning because I don’t have a closet there to access and the inclination to fish wires in the wall.John
Posted: 12:20 PM – Oct 04, 2014Nice job Cliff…..FYI back in December I posted that I was able to operate the awnings by remote control and still have the factory switches as a back up…..again nice neat job…..RichPosted: 9:33 PM – Oct 04, 2014Oh thanks. Now my DW is “thinking” about it…Posted: 11:19 PM – Oct 04, 2014John, Fishing the wire would be the worst part. You could do it during down time when you’re at the house. You’ll have all your tools.Subframe, I’m aware of the remote, but it just wasn’t worth the cost to me. I was using my toe, but this will be a lot more convenient.
Wingnusa, This wasn’t my idea either, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If you decide to do it and you want more detail, pm me any questions, I’ll be glad to help. (As long as I don’t have to do the work.)
Thanks guys,
