I’m installing the connections for a washer/dryer combo. The electric and pex pipe for the hot and cold water is pretty easy. Finding the ABS pipe for the drain is difficult and expensive. The state that I live has made it illegal to sell or use ABS. I did find it in stock in Mississippi. I should have bought it there? My question is has anyone used PVC?Where I connect to the existing system has a screw connection. So it would be easy to connect PVC to ABS.
I don’t think using PVC will pos any problem, just wanted to hear what others thought.
I used PVC to re-rout my washer drain 5 years ago when I installed my residential fridge and no problems so far.
ChipThere are PVC to ABS adapters and glue. I generally use a furnco coupling. (Rubber with hose clamps).– ABS to PVC transition cement
– As mentioned, Fernco (are the best) coupling
– A male (MIP) pipe (needs Teflon tape ) thread to Female (FIP) pipe thread adapters
– 2 male (MIP) pipe thread (needs Teflon tape ) adapters with hose adapters connected with a hose. If done this way it is best to use sanitation hose so bad smelling gases do not enter the trailer.Cheap washing machine supply hoses cause allot of household insurance claims.
FYI…..a trap and an auto vent is needed . There should be 24″-30″ of vertical pipe above the trap to prevent soap suds from over flowing.
We’ll try take a pictures of the set up in our Cameo

I will use a auto vent and extend the vent up a 30 inches. I didn’t think about telson tape, thanks for that! Thanks everyone for the information!I checked a local RV dealer for ABS pipe. A 10′ piece $28.00. Lowes 10′ piece of PVC $6.91.
PVC is fine, but in my area it is difficult to find the PVC connector pieces for drains, such as a “Y”, sweeps, or trap.I installed a washer and dryer in my MAX1 4 months ago. I used ABS because it was readily available. Here is a pic of my plumbing and electric. Note, the shutoff valves for the water are high enough to reach them behind the washer. The vent pipe is on the far left. Also, note the drip pan under the washer.
Let me know if you have any questions.
