- Common household fire extinguishers use powder and they need to be taken off the wall and turned up side down and tapped on the bottom with something like a can of soup, every 6 months to keep the powder free and moving. This and change the batteries in the smoke alarms are something I try to remember when I change the clocks for daylight saving. Seeing I forgot last Sunday and Jane had to remind me, I thought I would pass it on.Posted: 2:46 PM – Nov 06, 2013Great comment!
For those who are not aware, there are alternatives to the typical powder type extinguishers. Should the worse case happen, and you have to use an extinguisher in your home, clean up can be almost impossible.
We attended a seminar on this topic and learned of http://macthefireguy.com/. He sells the different type of extinguisher which does not require the kind of clean up resulting from use of powder types, plus they do not compact.
Be safe, and check extinguishers plus it’s a good time to include a battery change on your smoke detectors.
