- Got sick of the “black box” in the basement needed due to the lack of an inadequate sewer hose carrier offered by Carriage. So last week we installed a new sewer hose carrier that accomodate the 2 hoses along with fittings. Used it this weekend while at Jetty Park/Canaveral, FL. Works great! PhillipPosted: 4:10 PM – Feb 24, 2013Does your cameo not have it’s own locked, hose compartment?Posted: 4:38 PM – Feb 24, 2013It has its own sewrer hose compartment. It does not lock nor does ita accomodate the hoses with the fittings. It is just too small. PhillipPosted: 5:15 PM – Feb 24, 2013Huh, ok. I figured Cameo would be standard across the board. Our has room for hose, fittings, and locks. That’s why I asked. Good job on improvising, adapting, and overcoming as I like to call it. I tinker with all kinds of things. My biggest was adding 65 more gallons of gray in a removable belly tank.Posted: 5:58 PM – Feb 24, 2013jdpm wrote:It has its own sewrer hose compartment. We had the same problem. We use the Rhino Sewer Hoses w/couplings & fittings and they’re to big in circumference to fit in the factory sewer compartment. We have a Swivel-Wheel hitch mount trailer that our Yamaha Majesty Scooter rides on and I mounted a large pipe w/caps onto it for our sewer hose to ride in.
Posted: 5:07 PM – Feb 26, 2013being one end of the sewer hose, fits into the sewer compartment, I only had to fixed the other end. I used a rough cut file and and filed the end enough to fit into the compartment. (I like to do this when the hose is still new) Being the built in compartment only holds about 10′ feet, I needed more storage. I made one under the trailer and now have enough sewer hose to meet almost any RV park system.
BobPosted: 10:21 PM – Feb 26, 2013I hear you on the Rhino hose. Since I have a flowjet to pump gray to the truck bed, I decided to take the old hose tube out of the bay compartment and replace it with a two inch PVC mounted on top of a 5 or 6-inch PVC tube (can’t remember, but it’s just an inch or so bigger than the Rhino width) and cinched them within the old tube’s hangars located behind the dirt-devil vac in the bay. Figured sealed PVC is much better than whatever the old tube is made of. The bottom tube holds my Rhino and the top holds the flowjet hose. That Rhino turning end that connects to the 5W was a tad too wide to insert as is, so I used a hack-saw and removed about a half inch on the turn nobs. The sewer side rests in the compartment with the Rhino sewer connection. I should take a picture I guess. Helps much more than explaining.Posted: 11:00 PM – Feb 26, 2013I have a question regarding the original sewer hose pipe container. The inside end is sealed. So, if the coach is lower at the door side, all the cr*p in the sewer hose drains to the sealed end and ferments. If the street side is lower, all the cr*p drains to the outside and runs down the outside wall.
Which is worse. What do you guys find happens?Sheff
Posted: 12:44 AM – Feb 27, 2013I use caps on each end of my sewer hoses.Posted: 9:53 AM – Feb 27, 2013Phillip’s and BW’s idea of the storage hose container is a good idea that I have not gotten around to doing yet.I use the original sewer hose pipe container to store clean unused sewer hose in it. Drainage would be a problem. I have been washing out and draining the sewer hose after use and I store it in a seal plastic container. My way is nothing new but it is a way of storing the hose.

Posted: 10:08 AM – Feb 27, 2013I have used 6 inch round plastic pipe with ends before and worked great. I like the look of the square tubing and end cap. Where did you get it?Posted: 10:44 AM – Feb 27, 2013sheff69 wrote:I have a question regarding the original sewer hose pipe container. The inside end is sealed. I use the compartment as it came except changed old tube for PVC. The end of the tube inside the 5W is glue capped/sealed. The PVC is supported by straps. I adjusted the straps so it was barely above level at the inside capped end anticipating what you mention–a drain towards the outside wall. The other end of the Rhino hose rests in the compartment so if anything comes out, it would run down the wall as you mention. What I found was that nothing drains anywhere. I assume it’s because I always lift the hose after dumping gray and let it drain as much as possible, and after putting in the PVC that sits basically level, the hose kinks keep the remaining water where it is. If any drains into the compartment, like the connector elbow that sits there, dries I guess. I’ve not noticed any wet compartment, stinky mess, or any coming down the side wall the next time I use it. Guess I’m lucky.
Posted: 8:27 PM – Feb 27, 2013I am going to modify ours as well. While the WasteMaster hose and camlocks are nice, its very limiting. Either I’m going to take the storage tube apart and change it to the PVC 5″ fence post (buy it at Lowes), or I’ll add it underneath and carry both. I used the same Rhinoflex hose for 2 years without issue, easy to store, has the endcaps to keep anything left over inside.Posted: 8:57 PM – Feb 27, 2013I guess the Camco Revolution hose that we use must have larger fittings or something as it will not fit into the factory sewer hose compartment. I don’t really mind because the new carrier is exaclty where it needs to be for the fewest steps removing the hose and connecting it to the dump valve. Plus with it under the RV, any residual is not an issue. Now we use the factory sewer hose carrier for poles and the like. I’d forgotten about the end cap probably because I hadn’t needed it yet. Thanks for the reminder. I thought I’d add a few pics of what I’m talking about too as visuals really help. And, I found my end cap and installed it! In the first photo, I circled where I’d cut the nubs off to fit and you can see the two tubes I’d talked about.
Posted: 12:58 PM – Feb 28, 2013Oh, no! That is NOT the type of compartment that came on our rig. That is NICE! PhillipPosted: 3:04 PM – Feb 28, 2013I wish I had something or type of compartment like yours. Ours is totally different on the model we have.Nate
Posted: 4:22 PM – Feb 28, 2013That is odd. Seems like a keeper moving forward in models. Both of yours are newer than mine. Anyway, adding it would be really easy and cheap, easily under $50 if you have the tools. Ebay stores have several cheap doors. Trace and cut door. Buy plastic box, PVC pipe, and hanging straps from plumbing at lowes. Fix box/pvc to door via zip ties or rivets. Hang pipe behind the bay wall where the tank plumbing is located. That’s where mine hangs and orients a few feet above and to the left of the sewer drain pipe. If someone wants to attempt, I can offer advice to lessen the anxiety of cutting into your rig. I did it for the washer/dryer outside vent.Posted: 4:44 PM – Feb 28, 2013Monty,We sold the “Big House” about eight years ago and all of my tools went to the kids. However I can put a holder of some type under the rig. I do like the way yours looks.

Posted: 6:32 PM – Feb 28, 2013I used two 10 inch heavy “L” brackets screweded directly into the end of the frame as shown in the photos. The 5″ square vinyl fence post came in a 8 foot length. I cut it to 74 inches and spray painted it flat black. It is in a great spot, is hardly visible from either side and even then it looks like it belongs there. Plus, no worries of any residual getting inside the RV. This sewer hose storage is one fo the things I’ve mentioned to Lifestyle in my list of suggestions for future production. Thanks, I’m using the tube right now for the Dirt Devil vacuum hose, but would like to start using it for its original purpose.

Reading about a little bit of hose dribble reminds me of the scene in Vacation Christmas with Cousin Eddie emtpying his tanks in the gutter…Posted: 7:59 AM – Mar 02, 2013Nate

PhillipJdpm, Did you make all this your self? With Nuwa last 2 rv’s they had a compartment that had expanded metal bottom, for it to drain if needed.
Had a lock on it and could fit all sewer things into it. I would love some thing like those. I was outside today trying to figure out what to do with hoses.
I don’t like the hose compartment not being able to get more than one hose. Your topic got me thinking what I can do.
ThanksPosted: 11:18 PM – Aug 27, 2013Don, It seems that my way is really common. Two of our non-Carriage RVing buddies have done the same to their rigs. I made this hose carrier myself and it holds 2 sewer hoses with fittings, a doughnut, and elbow. It is a heavy pvc fence post cover with the post caps as the ends.
I wanted something easily accessible, discreet, and most of all functional. It meets all of the above. I painted it black to make it blend in better. The end cap on the curb/right side I screwed-on and the street/left side I made an easily removable rod and pins to secure it.
The carrier is a 5 inch square fence post cover and I painted it black. It is secured with 2 l-brackets and screws to the front part of the box frame.
I drilled 3 small drain holes in the center of the tube.
I love the mod. It puts all I need for connecting the hoses at a dump station or campsite within easy reach of where I need it with minimum steps. I don’t have any dirty sewer stuff in the basement or anyplace else.
The factory hose carrier was not large enough in diameter to house my sewer hose with fittings much less long enough to hold all I have in ours. I have no worries of odors or drainage in interior areas. Phillip.Posted: 8:29 AM – Aug 29, 2013jdpm wrote:Don, It seems that my way is really common. kidding honestly?
Like these? http://www.lowes.com/pd_17708-73428-730 … facetInfo=Posted: 10:03 AM – Aug 29, 2013Yep, that’s it. I can’t remember if I got it at Lowes or Home Depot. But that looks like it. PhillipPosted: 4:02 PM – Aug 29, 2013I also used vinyl fence post and caps. I got the ones that are designed for rails so that there is some ventilation. So that things don’t get hung up, I also got a length oh vinyl gutter, made some wood dividers so that I could creat separate sections for the hose and fittings. It slides in and out nicely and keeps everything outside.Posted: 5:21 PM – Aug 29, 2013Good ideas all and I keep looking in case I like a new idea. I have a 20′ hose in the compartment made for the hose with an end that fits in. I only use that one if I need a really long reach. I also carry shorter slinky that I just coil, ends and all, into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. In the bucket I carry a short hose that I use for the tank washer. If I don’t get the stinky slinky clean enough I just put water in the bucket and swish it all around. I can also sanitize the entire mess by dropping in a little bleach. Just set the bucket in the basement and it is ready.Posted: 12:03 AM – Mar 25, 2014jdpm wrote:Got sick of the “black box” in the basement needed due to the lack of an inadequate sewer hose carrier offered by Carriage.
