The other morning we were getting ready for breakfast, we opened the fridge door and it fell to the floor.  That was quite a shock.  After looking at what had happened it makes sense, I guess.  Half of the bottom hinge (the plastic part on the door) broke off and the door slid off the pin.  I noticed that the bottom of the bottom shelf which is part of the door had scratches on it because the metal plate which holds the pin had bent down over time and the door was sliding on the bottom of the fridge when opened and closed.  I believe this caused the stress which cracked the hinge.  Luckily the RV park had a fridge and freezer where we could put our stuff until I got the hing repaired.  The plastic used by Norcold dissolves with acetone so I used a cotton swab and kept putting acetone (finger nail polish remover) on both sides until they were soft and then pushed the two pieces together and held until it was “welded” together.  I also made a aluminum plate about 6 inches long (made from a wide aluminum ruler from Lowes and glued it to the bottom of the door) with a hole in it to set on the pin so the weld wouldn’t be stressed.  I also straightened the plate the pin is attached to and with 2 nylon washers on the pin to lift the door back into correct position.  The door works so easy now that it isn’t rubbing on the bottom of the fridge.  The fix wasn’t too difficult but would have been so much easier to do at home with the correct tools.  So checking to make sure this isn’t happening with your fridge before you go camping might save you from a unpleasant surprise on the road.
