Does anyone know if I can use a standard “home type” mounting flange for the toilet?

I had to replace the toilet valve a month ago or so, and today the DW complained that the toilet was loose. I re-tightened one of the bolts and went a quarter turn too far. I heard a snap, and it’s loose again. I didn’t check the flange, but that’s my guess. The nearest RV parts guy is about an hour away and closed today. Home Depot is ten minutes down the road.

        Thanks,
        Cliff

In my experience, they look the same to me.

The following item should help in repairing the broken part on the flange

Thanks guys, I sort of fixed it.

I got the ring that Papere suggested. I mounted it on top of the existing flange, as it appears to be glued to the downpipe, and nearly impossible to remove.

The problem now is that the toilet doesn’t quite seat on the floor. There’s a tiny gap, maybe 1/16 of an inch, and the toilet wobbles. I plan to buy some corrugated plastic sheet. I’ll cut it around the flange and it should act as a spacer for the bowl to sit on. Then I’ll trim it to match the toilet outline. Hopefully, it will compress enough to support the weight evenly without wobbling.

If anyone has a better idea, I’m open to suggestions.

Another thought, might be to remove a thin layer off of the flange with a belt sander so when the metal part is added it will equal what you had in height before. Remember that the metal repair will add a lot of strength to the flange.

You might try taking apart a wax toilet ring and using that in between where you add the spacers. A wax ring alone would probably work alone for 6-12 months, but will eventually wobble loose. Spacers alone focus the weight on just small portions of the base and the base may crack there as a result.

You can purchase a push in repair flange like this.

Cut the old flange flush with the floor or use an inside cutter like this.

Chip, I’m concerned that cutting off the flange will create a loose area in the downpipe. I like Papere’s idea. I probably only need to remove about 1/16″ of material. The metal ring is screwed down to the floor, through the existing flange. I’ll add some washers around the bolts, under the ring, to fill in the gap. That will help support the plastic so the other side won’t break.

        Thanks guys.
