Mysterious Black Tank Leak
https://carriage-lifestyle-owners.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=3438
Posted: 2:27 AM – Mar 10, 2017Hi! I have a 2011 36Max Carrilite. This last Sunday I was dumping my black tank. The tank was really full. When I was doing the flushing of the tank, I saw a drip from the underbelly of the RV. It looked like dirty water.. I immediately stopped. Next day I called a mobile RV specialist who took the inspection panel off and said that it was dirty water and it had gone into the insulation. He could not see any leak and said I would need to bring it in to a repair place. The next day (Tuesday), I took into a RV repair place. They took the tank out and there was black crap (literally) on top of the tank, in the insulation, and at the bottom of the fifth wheel. So we know the black tank leaked. But they could find no cracks in the black tank and the connections were tight. They are clueless as to how the tank leaked (and sewage never came up toilet). Any ideas what could be causing the leak? I bought this RV used a few months ago. There were no signs of leakage before this.Posted: 10:04 AM – Mar 10, 2017“there was black crap (literally) on top of the tank”Check for a loose pipe connection where it enters tank.
Posted: 11:38 AM – Mar 10, 2017Thank you. The repair guy said it was a tight fit.Posted: 1:03 PM – Mar 10, 2017What exactly was on top of the tank? Was it solid pieces, or just liquid? How large? Toilet paper? I’m trying to narrow down how large the opening would need to be.On the MAX1, the black tank can fill completely, and things start backing up in to the vent pipe, long before the toilet will overflow. Did the shop check the vent pipe, all the way up to, and including the “Y”. My “Y” vent fitting was not glued, at all, by the factory. Was the toilet spitting when you flushed it, prior to dumping? Did you drive with the tank full or close to it? When full, those tanks are a lot of weight bouncing down the road. This can cause cracks, pipe separations, and the fluids can slosh way up in to the vent pipe.
Posted: 1:05 PM – Mar 10, 2017Sorry for posting in wrong categoryPosted: 1:15 PM – Mar 10, 2017I talked to the repair people this morning. They said nothing went up into toilet. It was liquid that came out. When they filled tank up to top when it was inside RV, it started to leak at the connection between the pipe going into the tank and the tank itself, even though the pipe fitted properly, presumably from the pressure of how it sits. They are trying to take pressure off it by building a platform. Also will not fill tank up anymore.B.W.Gentry
