- So, after being absent on this forum for some time, I need some help, badly.
I did a really dumb thing. I decided to mount something on the back wall of the generator compartment. (I don’t have a gen, I use that area for storage.) I got out my drill, and promptly drilled a hole through the wall and into my fresh tank, not thinking about the fact that it’s behind that wall. I did my little Dutch boy impression, then put a screw in to stop the gushing water. Now I’m draining the tank.
My questions are as follows:
What is the best way to get to the front wall of the fresh tank? My guess is that I have to go in through the front wall of the main compartment, but that’s the back side of the tank. How do I reach the other side?
What is the repair process? JB Weld with an Eternabond patch over it?
In addition to actual help, any and all remarks about my stupidity are welcome. After all, I deserve it.
Thanks,
CliffPosted: 9:08 PM – Sep 05, 2017I’ve come close to doing that myself ?I don’t know your unit but the tank may/should come out through the compartment door where the tank fill and cable satellite hooks up are.
Before pulling all that apart you could over size (drill) the hole in the plywood and used a screw in tank sensor probe

Highly recommend using a stop collar on the drill.
…tried to insert a link to the Drill Bit Stop Collars on Amazon but it doesn’t show up.
You’ll want to open up the basement and check for wet insulation.
Posted: 1:16 PM – Sep 06, 2017Dang, I guess I’ve been very luck so far. I’ve mounted several things to that wall and never hit the tank. I have no idea how….I think I would put a bunch of silicone on a screw and screw it in the hole. I like the idea of making the hole in the fire wall larger, that will allow for the tank to move in transit.
Posted: 4:49 PM – Sep 06, 2017I started to pull the front basement wall off, but there is a second layer of plywood behind it, so that’s out.I went with BC’s advice. Using a variety of tools, I carefully cut and chopped a hole about 3″ square around the hole in the tank. I got the sensor probe at my local Camping World, and tightened it in. The tank is currently filling, so far without leaking. I’ll watch it for a couple of days before I patch the hole in the wall.
Thanks guys,
CliffPosted: 8:49 PM – Sep 06, 2017Don’t you just love how fellow Carriage owners bite their lip and DON’T say anything about your Ah, lack of concentration??? Keep in mind, we’ll all pulled a “really Stupid” at one time or another. Hope you are all fixed! The plug is holding, I just need to put a patch over the “window” I cut, and put everything back.
Hope you guys are doing well.

Hugs, DiPosted: 6:03 AM – Sep 09, 2017When I bought my current coach after we brought it home, not at the dealer like I should have, I filled the tank and had water leaking if over half full. Same thing the previous owner mounted a peg board in front compartment. I pulled the basement front wall and moved the tank enough to access the front of it, then got some 3/8″ plugs used for level pins, drilled a 3/8″ hole inserted the pin and tightened them, no leaks and when I want See Level all I have to do is attach the wires.B.W.Gentry
