- I have a Chevy Silverado 2500HD standard bed. I’m looking into some sort of collapsible bed cover which would fold towards the cab and not interfere with my FW hitch. I want any hardware/tracks that support the cover to be mounted inside of the bed rails so I don’t use up any of the gap between the bed rails and the bottom of the fifth wheel. I’d like it to be lockable so it would at least discourage any casual theft of the items stored in the bed.
Wondering if anyone has a cover which meets those criteria or is aware of a good supplier which may have a cover that does.
Thanks,
Bill
Posted: 5:57 PM – Mar 17, 2019We’ve been happy with our BakFlip. As long as the tailgate locks the cover can’t be lifted. Very sturdy and keeps bed contents dry when closed.Posted: 8:13 PM – Mar 17, 2019I have a Tonnopro Lo-Roll bed cover. It’s a vinyl rollup cover with the release inside, so if the tailgate is locked, the latch is inaccessible. Installation is “no drill” the rails clamp to the bed side rails. The best part is that it carries a lifetime warranty. five years after original purchase I broke a ten cent plastic hook, they sent me a whole new cover.Posted: 9:44 PM – Mar 17, 2019This is a tuff one. There are so many on the market. I wanted some type of cover for my new 2018 GMC.
My experience with past covers made me realize that I may not find one that does not reduce the bed rail width which is important in
jack-knife situations like in certain parking situation. At the same time, one that does NOT reduce bed rail width will most likely set atop
the rails which in turn reduces RV chin to bed rail clearance. Dilemma!
Then its price point, quality, and material.
After much research and shopping I went with the Truxedo Pro X15. At the year mark I’m still very happy with it. Its very, very well made and the company has an excellent reputation.
It is a soft cover like a convertible top fabric but water proof. It has cross member bars so that the fabric doesn’t sag.
Its “locked” when the tailgate is closed and locked.
It operates very smoothly and rolls up when the truck bed is needed.
I have slightly nicked both sides of the aluminum rails with the pin box but I knew that would be the case with probably any of them that
are mounted between the rails.
Good luck.Posted: 10:42 PM – Mar 17, 2019I have the truxedo low pro bed cover and also have hit the inside rails. I used a saws all and cut out a notch in the aluminum rail where needed with no problem. Only negative I have with the cover is after 3 years the Velcro along the sides is not attaching as well as when new, but it is getting old so not a significant complaint. Hides any contents and keeps the honest people honest! The cover material has held up well with only minor fade. Overall happy with the cover and function of the system.Posted: 9:25 AM – Mar 18, 2019I have the Retraxpro and am very pleased with it. It was on the truck when I bought it and I had originally planned on removing it, but I have left it on there. It does ride on top of the bed rails, but is very low profile. The only time I made contact with camper in 4 years, the camper actually kissed the bed behind the end of the cover rails. This was on a major grade change mid turn.Posted: 9:37 AM – Mar 18, 2019We have the Retrax cover. Have had one on the past 3trucks!Posted: 6:33 PM – Mar 18, 2019Thanks to all who offered feedback on my question. Lots of good suggestions. I have ordered the Truxedo Pro X15. I felt that was a good compromise between quality and what my wallet was willing to cough up. I really liked the Retrax Pro but a little too pricey for me.Thanks again !

Posted: 7:03 PM – Mar 18, 2019I have a chevy silverado 2500hd and have a 5th hitch. I have a PACE EDWARDS roll up topper , it locks. It rolls out of the way for towing and pulls closed and locks when I need it locked , it is a aluminum rolling top with a black covering on top, very secure and love it
TonyPosted: 2:49 PM – Mar 23, 2019Glad you found something that works for you. We have had Pace Edwards for years starting with our 1996 Dodge Ram. We opted for the one with the key fob so it retracted and extended with a push of the button. We tried the Retrax when that one just plain wore out. It just wasn’t the same and when in a hail storm hit, it put a hole right in the middle. That was a first for us. That took us back to the Pace Edwards and we are happy campers once again Hugs, Di .Posted: 3:00 PM – Mar 23, 2019I have the retraction pro on my 2500 Denali Hd and really like it , lo profile and lockableSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Posted: 7:47 AM – Apr 21, 2019I also have the Pace Edwards. Almost 11 years old, having moved from truck to truck. Replaced the teflon slide inserts and rubber two years ago. While at it, I cut extra stop/lock “notches” in each rail. It now stops just forward of my hitch. I put in a vertical sheet of plywood there for secure semi-dry storage when towing.303 on the rubber and silicone spray on the slide inserts and it just keeps on going.
