We have a 2017 F350 Super Duty Crew Cab Long Box truck. The top of the bed rails is about 60″ when empty. We just purchased a 2008 Domani and the owner is delivering it to us as we do not have the 5er hitch mounted yet. He is throwing in his 22K Reese hitch. In measuring everything I could, I see that it might be a challenge to achieve the 6″ clearance between the bed rails the the 5er overhang. When I load the truck with 2,000 pounds, the bed rails height drops down to about 57 1/2″.  The 5er height from the concrete while sitting fairly level is about 62″. Any ideas on how to get that 6+” inches of clearance without making the 5er sit nose high?

Flip the axles to the underside of the springs, adding a 1 or 2 inch block or a few overload springs as needed for lift.

The 4×4 adjustment at the spring shackles and/or equalizer will not be enough. I would put them back to the 4×2 setting and do it all with the flip and overloads/spacers.

While you have it apart, inspect shackle bolts and bushings very carefully for wear, replace as needed. If it were me, and I had things this far apart,  I would upgrade to greasable shackle bolts regardless of wear.

That camper was built before truck mfg’s raised bed and rail heights 2-inches in the 2008 model year. Model year 2010 campers caught up with that. Your 2017 is 2-inches taller yet. Not to worry about added height. 13-foot 6-inches is statutory height in most states, but get a good RV gps that programs in your actual height before calculating a route for you.

John, thanks for the great info. I was hoping for an easier fix, but a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do, right?
