- Our 2010 Cameo came with a PD9260 charger. It seemed to be working fine, but now I’m thinking there’s a problem with it.
If I turn Off the Battery Disconnect switch, the RV’s lights dim and the LED lighting starts to flicker.
This happens even if I’m drawing only a couple of amps from it.
This is the only “troubleshooting” method the manufacturer manual suggests:
“if it reads 13.6v with no load, it’s good.”If I bench test the unit not connected to anything it does output 13.6vdc without any load.
I would expect to be able to pull the batteries from the RV and run solely from the charger with no dimming or LED light flickering issues, so long as I didn’t draw more than 50 amps from it, or am I missing something?

Good luck but I’m sure someone else will chime-in. PhilPosted: 9:48 PM – May 20, 2018Tim,How old are your batteries – how many volts do they hold when charged but with the charger turned off? Are they topped off with water? Either can cause this flickering, even if the charger is ok.
Some dimmers do not work with leds, and some leds can’t be dimmed even if the dimmer is rated for them. Not all leds can deal with the voltage fluctuations in automobiles – many are geared to ac/dc household current current converyed to flat 12 volts, but there are a lot of leds that are designed to deal with the fluctuations.
Posted: 11:00 PM – May 20, 2018Hi John,
The batteries are two months old, date marked 03-2018.
They are two Costco Interstate 6Volt GC2’s wired in series.I have a Flow-Rite RV 2000 watering system attached to a mounted Distilled Water tank and check the levels weekly.
Without the charger plugged in, I read 12.45volts, so I’m thinking the charger is not fully charging them.
If I turn off the battery disconnect switch so it’s running on the charger only, lights not on a dimmer flicker.
If I then unplug the PD9260 from A/C power, the 12 volt lights go off as expected.
I would think that if the PD9260 was capable of outputting up to 60Amps at 12 vdc, the lights would not dim or flicker unless I was drawing close to 60 amps.
I’m only drawing about 3amps from it..

Ok, with lights flickering, unplug the PD9260 from the 110 volt outlet with the battery disconnect switch in the normal position. If flickering stops, tell the Progressive folks that, plus all that you just explained above. They should have an answer as to why this is happening. If flickering continues when you unplug the progressive, which I am doubting, the Progressive is not the source – maybe poor ground someplace(s).
Be prepared to tell them if it happens everywhere every time, just at certain campgrounds, or is intermittant.
I am thinking that the smart charger’s anti-sulfate process is involved or perhaps acting up.

My only problem with this is the lights don’t flicker/dim when the battery disconnect switch is in the normal ON position.
(“ON” with the way mine is = batteries not disconnected.)I read in another post here that I should flip the batteries “OFF” when on full shore power (50Amps)
I cannot do that because my A/C’s need a full 12v to operate properly.
I’m going to pull the unit and ask PD to have a look at it, as this has been an issue since we bought the RV a year ago.
Update:
PD just told me they will not look at it and to buy a new one.
I went with an Aims 1250 Inverter/4-Stage Charger with remote LCD pendant, and will post a complete review after installed and tested.B.W.Gentry
