        New to land cruising but now that we might go boondocking in the late fall / winter down south I was curious;
        Had anyone put the extra batteries and charger/inverter in the aft storage area where the shore power enters?  Seems to me that putting a large bank there because of boondocking would offset the weight of the forward ‘garage’ where it seems extra batteries are being installed.  AC shore power wiring is right there, welding wire can handle the run to 12vdc panel and units CG moves aft.

        That’s a good idea.  You would have to provide a AC fuse for the connection to the inverter.  What is “CG” ?  The Aims inverter will auto transfer to AC shore power when detected.  I purchased a remote to access the inverter from inside the trailer.  What size inverter would you install?

        CG == Center of Gravity, sorry for abbreviation.
        Used Magnum inverters in land and marine installation with excellent results for a long time.   2000 or 2800 watt 12vdc for RV (but I’m reconsidering even going on the road after this last 2 hour drive up I5 in Oregon… ridiculous amounts of traffic).   Units have auto switching, multi stage charging, etc. Have a 1600 ah battery bank with 2800/12 inverter, remote start and monitor  in vineyard pump house.  Boat has 600 ah, going to add more with 2000 watt inverter and monitor, no remote start.  I’m thinking about 600 ah for the RV, adding solar and pondering portable generator…

        I guess venting would definitely be a consideration since there are floor vents to the rear storage compartment.

        It is an good idea. Before buying anything look into:

        15%-25% of the GVW is the recommended pin weight.  Many people think it should be a min. of 20%.

        Bracing under the plywood floor and the location of the outriggers that support the outside walls.

        Venting –  AGM is an option – Lithium ($$) does not need venting but the CG (center of gravity) would not move much and keeping Lithium above 32F becomes an issue.

        Integrating the invert output (transfer switch) into the existing wiring – Some (large) inverters allow the AC electricity to pass through which makes it easier to install into one leg of the AC.

        Managing 2 battery banks

        Access for maintenance  – filling the batteries with (distilled) water
