So our refrigerator has been replaced but now seems to love to build up ice on teh inside of the freezer. I have to scrape it out once or twice a month depending on how thick. Has anyone got this issue?

Sounds like the freezer door is not closing properly or the freezer door seal is not sealing properly.

What was the replacement. Standard RV or residential? I agree with JohnD222. Where are you located. Here in AZ we don’t have much humidity so don’t have to deal with a lot of build-up. As JohnD222 said, check the seals.

I have a four door Norcold, where the freezer is separated into two compartments. The side of the freezer that has the ice maker builds up ice like you describe, and eventually has to be defrosted. But this is something that is required every 3-4 months, certainly not a couple times a month as you describe in your other post. I typically defrost it when the ice gets thick enough to interfere with the operation of the ice maker. The refrigerator compartment has the cooling fins that ice up and then automatically defrost into the collection tray below them. You may have your refrigerator turned up too high if it is icing up that bad. Are you having trouble with things freezing that are in the refrigerator portion?

BTW, I have found that the side that ices up can be defrosted while leaving the refrigerator on. I just remove the contents of that compartment and leave that door open for several hours and place a large towel in the bottom to absorb the melt water as it defrosts, checking it often and wringing out the towel to manage the melt water.

On the Norcold subject, has anyone sign up for the class action law suite and has anyone heard anything in that regard?……..Rich

Glad I ordered the residential fridge. RV fridges are crap.

They are pretty darned nice when the power in the park goes out for 2 or 3 days in the middle of July.

We love our Norcold. Cannot imagine having a fridge that cannot run on LP. From boondocking to trips to the shop, lp capable fridge rocks. I understand this may be a minority view, but we would never choose a residential fridge even if buying a new 5w tomorrow. We seem to have gotten one of the good ones, some say they cannot keep ice cream frozen in them. Ours will freeze everything in the refrigerator if we turn it up above 7.

I wouldn’t stay at a park with no power for 2 or 3 days in the middle of July.

Thank you I will try this

In my efforts to resolve my endless poor cooling performance of our 4 door Norcold, I discovered that the latches did a poor job of properly sealing the doors allowing air to escape. There really is not an appropriate adjustment to solve the problem so I used JB Weld hardening putty to build up the latch to make it seal better.
I don’t blame you for wanting to keep the Norcold if you can remedy your issue as it does offer more flexibility as far as power options are concerned.
In our case, it was GOOD RIDANCE and no more cooling issues with the 18 cu ft with ice maker Samsung. In our case……that’s total freedom but we don’t dry camp and have solar to power it during daylight hours.
Good luck and I hope you can find a solution.

Thanks for your input – but when storm damage knocks out power for a 5-square-mile area which happens to encompass the park, it’s not the park’s problem.

Thanks for expanding on the circumstances that caused you to remain in a park with no power in the middle of summer. I’m sure the roads being blocked from storm debris made recovery efforts a challenge.

Factory option with additional batteries and inverter.
