Has anyone tried to repair the faceplate when the posts sheer off? I have replaced several motors, They always fail with the bolt posts sheering from the faceplate. Has anyone used say JB Weld epoxy to repair a damaged slide out motor?
I ordered a new motor, I am thinking about reinforcing the faceplate on the new motor with JB Weld around the posts on the out side and also in side the gear reduction area, there is plenty of room.

This is the broken face plate of my old slide motor. I clamped the two broken pedestals with a small amount of JB Weld for 24 hours and then followed up with reinforcing all five with more epoxy. I don’t know if the repair will hold. I will do the second step to the face plate of the new motor and install it. I am going to keep the repaired motor in my spare parts basket.

Fran,
Here are some pictures from the work we have done on housing/faceplate.
The old housing/faceplate is rather thin and not great material.
As a result the wear on the gear and rather oval shape for the opening, not sure if the picture can show it

Here is another view side – by – side.
The rebuild housing/face plate had a “field” test this camping season and seems to be holding just fine.

I have the ability to machine a piece like you have but not the access to the equipment. I liked the work, congrats. I was an engine machinist in my earlier years. I was then a truck mechanic for 5 years and know enought to be dangerous.
After signing off from the original topic. ( the one that is up to about 37 replies.) I think I might not have had 4 bad solenoids. Somewhere in there I did something not listed anywhere, I disconnected the negative white wires behind the in/out switchs. I didn’t have a wiring diagram and the second set may have required both signals. The third set, the 250 amp set had a wiring diagram and a external ground wire going up to the battery negative post. I knew I only needed to provide a positive wire.

My motors seem to be in good shape, so far. Would you be willing to sell me a end cap that you made? Never hurts to have a spare. I do have a spare gear.
thanks Dave

I would be interested in a faceplate as well. Right now I have done a fix by running a stainless steel radiator hose clamp between between the motor gear shaft and the gear shaft that connects to the square bar going to the other side of the slider. Greased well. The stainless steel is very springy so allows a small amount of give. My gears are still in excellent condition so I think this temporary fix will last well.
But a new and better plate would be better yet. My email is mrhille007@gmail.com if you are still making them. Thanks, Dave05/26/2022 at 12:40 pm #63213chuck
