- The remote controlled Carrier AC unit’s compressor in our 2009 Cameo has quit, and the tech who came out said there is no remote controlled replacement since Carrier went out of business. Can anyone recommend a satisfactory replacement. Or is there a source for a new compressor which would work in it? We thought about seeing if the bedroom AC (also Carrier) compressor could replace the one in the living area and replace the bedroom AC with another brand. We have not used it except occasionally to help with a quicker cool down after traveling.Posted: 10:54 AM – Jun 27, 2013Check with PPL in Houston. They have a compatible replacement allowing use of the remote. When mine went out we switched the bedroom AC to the living room and are able to use the remote. We had a 15,000 BTU model put in the bedroom. If you don’t want to pay for a thermostat, you can get a model that you control at the unit. I had the tech install a thermostat so we could have ducted AC from the bedroom.

Camping World also has the Coleman adapter. It now has a similar adapter for the Dometic units (Brisk and presume BriskII=#60104) (Penguine and Penguine II definitely= 60105).
PPL has great prices on A/C’s. 4-5 days shipping when units in stock which they usually are.I am in Florida and use both units all of the time. I replaced the bearing at the base of the main (black) fan twice on both Sept 2009 units(2010 Cameo) before that motor quit for good on main unit. If that fan does not spin freely, the compressor overheats and seizes up until it cools down again.
Posted: 11:37 AM – Jun 27, 2013Mike/anyone else,My Cameo came with factory ducted prep in bedroom, but for some reason dealer installed a carier non-ducted unit instead. I expect this unit to quit in the near future, but if not I could use the internals and insides from the “old” main unit to convert this to ducted. I have verified that I have the thermostat wiring in place in the roof cavity. However, the full 2×4 ceiling hole framing goes all the way around the 14 inch square hole. Any chance that you saw the inside of your bedroom unit or ceiling before it was all put back together? I am wondering if there are round hole-saw holes cut in specific places or if it is rough elongated jig saw cuts that allows the cool air to get into the insulated ductwork. .
