      Hello All

I’ve got at least 50 white trim screws that are rusteing and need replacing, a common problem I’ve had in our last 2 rigs as well.

Seems to me that the RV manufacturers really cheap out on the quality they use.

Has anyone found a decent quality replacement screw and if so, where do you buy it?

In the past I’ve gone stainless but then every other screw in the exterior is a different colour.

Any and all advice is much apprecciated.

      Thanks in advance

      Terry Smith

        Terry,

I use stainless with a slightly larger thread but before I put any in the 5er, I take a piece of cardboard and push about 2 dozen into the cardboard.  Clean the tops with alcohol, let dry well, prime, ant then several coats of high gloss white automotive/metal paint.  Usually have several left over for next time.

the best fit I have found is at ACE hardware, but they are traditional Phillips heads.  Not the best and some round out so I throw them away and use another.

also, most scores rust from the inside.  That means water is getting behind the trim somehow. Usually from up high where you do not check that often and it cannot run out the bottom because you see that area often and are on top of any caulking defects.

        have a great weekend.

          John

Thanks for your feed back. Great idea about the prime/paint of the new screws which offers up a more attractive solution to plain SS.

          Thanks, I’m all over it.

          Terry
