- I know this is a little off topic. Hot water Smell! Any of you have This? We have softener and then post charcoal filter. Still have the anode Rod in the tank. Thought about taking it out but wasn’t sure how quickly you could damage the tank? Any ideas?Posted: 8:52 AM – May 09, 2017This question was brought up in another post so I started a new thread. Here is a good read about the problem.

Here is a good search on the topic.
https://www.google.com/search?sourceid= … =ssl#spf=1Whatever you do, do not remove the anode rod and use the Suburban water heater. Your just looking for problems. Also, softening makes this smell worse.

ChipPosted: 9:31 AM – May 09, 2017Thanks Chip. Good information.Posted: 11:57 AM – May 09, 2017Thanks, Anyone tried these before and with what results?Posted: 12:35 PM – May 09, 2017Partimewages wrote:Thanks, Anyone tried these before and with what results?I haven’t tried it but never had to. We live in our rig 24/7 365 so our water heater gets used daily. The people I have herd talk about this problem only use their rig occasionally. Here is another good read about how the bacteria that causes the smell can live in temps above the operating temp of the water heater and must be killed with bleach.

Posted: 8:03 PM – May 10, 2017Tried this out today and it seems to work. I’ll know better over the next month and will post something else then. Thanks for all the help.Posted: 9:20 PM – Jun 14, 2017I had this on my boat and had to replace the anode though it wasn’t very old. Put bleach in the tank with water. About 10 oz. should do. Let it sit overnight. Drain/flush out the tank. You should be fine.B.W.Gentry
