- Due to circumstances beyond my control, I must winterize my 36FW. W/D is no problem , but can not find out how to do the ice maker in the Samsung Residential Refrigerator. Calls to dealer, Samsung, and Lifestyle have been no help.. ThanksPosted: 8:58 PM – Oct 28, 2013I assume the fridge has an ice maker. Since the fridge isn’t designed to freeze there isn’t any “system” to winterize the unit. I think that shutting off the water, disconnecting the water line and letting it drain is about all you can do. It might be possible to apply suction to the line to extract as much water as possible.Posted: 3:49 AM – Oct 29, 2013On my stick house samsung, i can remove the water purifier/filter completely, and there is no need for a plug – just leave it out. That should eliminate that source of water, but you still need to get the water out of the entire supply system, including the line leading to the frige and internals.
I don’t have a domestic frige, I use air pressure to empty all of my water lines, including getting water out of the water heater cutoff valves after i empty the water heater. There is a hose fitting that screws into the shore water input that allows you to hook up to a small compressor. You need to dial back tbe pressure regulator to 40 psi or so before connecting it. Then open one fauvet/valve at a time including the outside shower; opening the faucet a little actually gets the water out better than full blast, but once the water has stopped and all you gert is air, openthe faucet full, then close and move on to the next. After you go through that entire process on all outlets, do each one again.
If you have water in the frig door, hold that open for quite some time. Remove the compressor, or remove the hose so the system is no longer pressurized. This should allow water to drain back down from the freezer/icemaker. Hook up the compressor again. You should get quite a bit more water out of the door water. If not, you must eliminate the air lock. Remove the ice tray.
If you have a schematic or parts list, ask yourself how would i replace a broken icemaker with a new one. You are taking the old one out, and will put the old one back in when it is warmer. In the back of the frige behind the ice tray, there are several screws (nut driver usually, but sometimes phillips) that hold in a cover plate that covers hose and wiring connections. My supply line has a screw on connection to the icemaker. Disconnect it. Remove the icemaker and keep it in a warm place; pretty hard to get all of the water out of its internals. Use the door water without air attached. This should allow water to drain back. Hook up the compressor again. Realize that there is no longer any way to “turn off” the supply line to the icemaker so put a towel in a suitable place to collect the water, or have a second person turn on the compressor, or take the icemaker to the store and buy the brass or plastic fitting that will allow you to cap or valve the end in the frig.
