We just got through Irma without issue.  Our home is hard wired with a 30amp four prong plug to plug into a 5500 watt Generac Wheelhouse portable generator with a 120/240 Volt AC 30 Amp locking receptacle.  It only runs the electrical outlets in the house.  We lost power for a week due to Irma.  The LS fiver is at our house.  In the future (provided the LS survives again) we’d prefer to use the generator to power the RV.  At least then we could run an a/c, micro, have hot water, etc., until the stick house gets power again.
I have purchased a RV Power Cord Generator Adapter 30amp Male 4-prong Plug to 30amp Female to be able to plug-in the RV as needed during power outages at the house.  I have not tested it yet until I get advice from your trusty forum members here.
Is this adapter safe for RV use as it is advertised?  I have read conflicting issue on the subject.  Some have said it will only power one leg of the RV.  I don’t understand that as I have had power to the entire RV when using a 30amp adapter in sites with only 30amp service.
Finally, the fiver is equipped with a hard wired Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C.  Would the generator be compatible with the surge/electrical protector since the generator is not an inverter type?  Enclosed is a link to the adapter that I purchased.
      Thanks, Phil

That connector carries two 120v legs, a neutral and a ground. Other than amperage, it is the same as a standard 50 amp RV circuit. The adapter you purchased should work fine, and with your 50 amp to 30 amp RV adapter, it will power both legs.

As to the quality of the generator output, I can’t say. Those construction type generators tend to be less than a perfect sine wave. However, if your Progressive box doesn’t kill the power, then I would feel comfortable running most anything with it. The only things I have found that need a perfect sine wave are electric blankets.
