- I have washer hookups. Room for side by side in the closet. I guess any compact will fit? I don’t see a dryer vent. Anyone added a vent?Posted: 6:42 AM – Jun 10, 2016I added a vent in 2 coaches. The Alfa had a sticker showing the vent location. It was in the wrong spot. Yeah.Posted: 9:28 PM – Jun 10, 2016We have the Haire combo that didn’t need a vent. We rarely use the dryer and instead dry our clothes on a portable rack either inside or out. If I had to do it over again, for our purposes, I would opt for the washer only.
GregPosted: 3:46 PM – Jun 12, 2016We have washer and dryer, this is my second make a vent hole. Using a 4″ bimetal hole saw measure about equal in height as the dryer, test for studs, drill from the inside only till the drill part goes through the outside wall then go outside and drill in. The bimetal is in case you miss and go into a stud, won’t hurt anyhing just annoying. I like having both as drying one load we can wash the second. These machines are small so it takes a couple of loads to stay caught up.Posted: 3:50 PM – Jun 12, 2016Great tips- thanks!Posted: 4:16 PM – Jun 12, 2016Jere&Laur wrote:then go outside and drill in.Applying masking tape to the slick outside area that will be cut helps the hole saw get initial traction. Also should reduce the chance of splintering.
Posted: 8:51 AM – Jul 19, 2016Any tips how to find a stud through the cabinet? Lifestyle says 16″ centers. Is that from the front of the slide I wonder?Posted: 12:27 PM – Jul 19, 2016Stud finder. $15 at any hardware store. A more expensive one will point out electrical lines behind the wall.Posted: 12:40 PM – Jul 19, 2016FaithBowls wrote:Any tips how to find a stud through the cabinet? Lifestyle says 16″ centers. Hollow sound for no stud and solid sound when you get to the stud. I have been using this method for years on rv’s and stick and brick homes. When I did my vent, once I found where I wanted the vent I cut a small hole through the luan with a razor knife just big enough to stick my finger in and felt around for any obstructions like wires or plumbing. Once your sure, drill it like stated in the post above, start from inside and finish from outside. If you cover the area on the outside with some blue painters tape it will help reduce the risk of splintering the fiberglass.
ChipPosted: 1:03 PM – Jul 19, 2016Got it, thanks. Nothing beats doing it the old fashioned way.Posted: 2:58 PM – Jul 19, 2016A 4-1/8″ hole saw works better for the pipe if you can find one, 4″ diameter pipe doesn’t fit 4″ hole well.Posted: 10:05 PM – Jul 19, 2016FaithBowls wrote:I have washer hookups. Anyone added a vent?Ours came with a vent in place since we ordered our Carriage with a Sears Stackable washer & dryer. Dryer still going strong at 20 years of labor but had to finally replace our washer after 18 years of faithful service. Our new washer is a Haier washer as I had to go strictly by dimensions to get it into the cabinet. It was also quite a shock to see no agitator inside. Boy can I add more clothes per load now
.
I wanted separate units for 2 reasons. 1. I had the room and 2. Sometimes I like to start another load of wash while the dryer is running when we’ve been boondocking or at electric only sites.
Try and get as big a tub as you can as some units have very small tubs making for more wash loads. I can look in my manual and get my capacity if you want. Hugs, DiPosted: 5:29 PM – Jul 20, 2016Much easier to cut a hole through my trailer than I thought. All went in easily and first load is in the washer. They designed the closet just the right size. The vent fit best running straight out from the dryer. In that location it took out the “L” in “Lifestyle” so I now tow a “Lifestye.”Posted: 7:27 AM – Aug 23, 2016FaithBowls – what make and model of washer / dryer did you install? I am starting to look into adding these into our 36FW. I suspect our closet is the same size as yours even though we have different models.
Thanks in advance!Posted: 10:16 AM – Aug 23, 2016We got the Splendide Ariston stacking and put them side by side. They fit exactly. They work very well. The only thing to get used to is the drying time – about 80 minutes per load. The dryer is lower heat because it’s 110v, not 220 like a home dryer. If you look at others, check the depth and leave at least 4 inches for hoses. JoeB.W.Gentry
