Purchased this 07 F35SB3 this winter. You helped me with a couple other issues and solved them. Thank You for that

Just flushed system for the first time to get ready for this summer.  Breaker is on and on/off switch on face of WH is on. Nothing…. So I ordered a new 1440Watt heater element.

But WH isn’t lighting on gas either? Would that have anything to do with the element being out?

What am I missing here to light on LP?

      Thank You

        Graz,

gas hot water completely independent of 120 electric.

when turning on propane for first time in a while, light stovetop first and get solid non- flickering flame on all burners.  (Gets the air out of the line to point of stovetop, so less between tanks and propane hot water).  The  turn on propane hot water switch inside kitchen.  It may need to be reset (off, then back on in 5 seconds) if it does not fire up.

Does furnace fire up if set to 85 or 90?  If yes, you have ample propane to fire up hot water heater. .  If no, is switching valve at dual tanks showing full green?  Both tanks open?  In not full green, try switching lever to switch tanks.  Still no full green, your propane hoses may have gotten clogged with age and or plugged the switching regulator.  By full I mean all window green, if just halfway up it is clogged.

i have had a bad electric switch on the outside of heater – zero reason to ever turn it off – you have a circuit breaker and a kitchen switch.

Probably only reason to replace heating element is if you turned on electric heat with no water in heater, or it shows zero continuity.

        hope this helps

          JohnD,

This unit has sat for years so my thoughts on element also.

Fired stove to pull thru LP and that works fine.

Where would the kitchen switch be located?

I’ve looked thinking there should be one but all I found were light switches.

So far I only located the 15amp breaker and the switch on the front of WH.

            GZR,

my 2010 has both a propane switch and an electric switch on kitchen wall to the right of the sink. These are separate switch boxes.  The electric has an indicator light, but breaker must be on for this to work.  (BUT it may have been me that changed out a simple switch ages ago for one that had an integrated indicator light). The propane has an indicator light that lights up when firing up, then goes off.  Only comes back on again if a default.  No idea if an 07 had these or where they would be – but I would think the propane one would be essential.

A separate 120 volt outlet is nearby that is connected into the breaker for that wall, not the breaker for hot water.

I had that little outdoor toggle switch go bad ages ago.  You can test it for continuity and temporarily Hotwire if bad.  Readily available at auto parts stores – just bring in the old one.

The 12 volt propane switch and electric HW switch could be anywhere. Lifestyle has them above the entry door!

maybe an 07 could only turn off electric hw heat via breaker??

maybe look in location(s)  where you slide switches, water pump switch, and tank level indicators are located??

                JohnD222,

I got home from work and searched everywhere. While in the bathroom I noticed the toilet seal isn’t holding after sitting so long. Walked in to add more water hoping the rubber may recover and there it was on the wall between the toilet and shower! The switch it shows in the manual and a light switch under it labeled water heater, Go figure…I was going crazy knowing there had to be a switch!

Thanks again for your help in solving another issue.

If not operated for years, it may recover. I would do as you are doing, filing, operate, and refill. Better yet, after doing that a few time try 303 on that seal. really brings rubber back to life – up to a point. if too far gone, too far gone.
